Q: iPhone 4S "no service" problem

hello all,

Just got my iPhone 4S 18hrs ago and it wen to "no service" like 3 times (so far)!!

  • I have changed carrier setting to manual I can select my network but still "no service"
  • I turned on then off "airplane mode" it goes searching... then "no service"
  • it only work when I restart or reinsert the SIM

Is this common? do I have to worry ?

Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks,

    Hi 2 all!

iPhone 4S, neverloked, official updated from iOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.

I have "No service" problem a few times daily.

Switch to Airmode is not helping, reboot only.

I had a lot of "no service" issues. I went with my phone 4s to the apple store. The genius found out after diagnosis that many problems were seen with connections in my phone. He gave me a new iPhone 4s. At home it turned out that the "no service" problem was back. by accident I discovered that the problem was solved after I had removed the cover. I have put a movie on youtube. I hope this solution will be helpfull for at least some of you.

I hope they will give me new phone, but i doubt it will happen in thailand

if i set the carriers on manual, it just searches and never finishes

it is worse then before installing 5.1 firmware

I just checked my phone and even network reset does not work anymore, i need to do a complete restore again after using it only 3 days after restore, this is a junk brick, i strongly suggest not to buy apple stuff anymore

Had this problem since the ios5 update. Nothing was working I had to switch it off just to get signal for 5 mins then it would go again. I was covinced it was the update. I went back to Apple and in true Apple style they gave me a new phone and told me that I should get a sim transfer from o2. I didn't I was so convinced it was the phone well I walked passed the o2 shop got in my car started driving home and... you guessed it 'No Signal' So 3 weeks later I get back to the o2 shop he transfers my sim and.... 'It works' no 'No signal for 12 hours!! When I look at the 2 sims the new one I got today seems to have a bigger chip although the sim is the same size, the chip is much bigger!! Its worth doing!!!

I had these symptoms and fixed it.

Flew from one NZ city to another.  Left my phone in normal non-flight mode. (I dont know but doubt this is related)

On arrival my phone would no longer connect to telecom (although it could see it)

    Things tried:

    Restart phone

Restart phone with variations of modes and SIM status

    Resetting Network settings.

    Upgrading from 5 to 5.1

Pretty much everything except a restore

Calling Telecom - and getting put through to great staff of differing levels of knowledge.

It was suggested that before doing a restore I try a new SIM.

This worked. Old sim would not work in another phone.

Theory is magnetic fields in upper atmosphere damage delicate microsim,

    I dont care.

    Working again.

hmm, i got new microsim today in Thailand, still same problem, i had big sim before and i cut it with a stamper in the phone shop.

So that was not the problem.

CRAZYTIJO  what you talk about transfer sim, what do you mean, to get a number from different company, or different sim?

    I dont get it

each time i use airplane mode or when i switch carrier mode from auto to manual, my signal is lost and have to do network reset

even worse then before on 5.01 update.

I am really clueless. They give me brand new sim today, transfered the number to new sim, still problems...

    The darnedest thing happened today!!
Cannot explain it but it is weird.
I had my share of iPhone 4S woes, as it was from the very first batch, updated the software which eventually fixed the problem somewhat but was absolute **** for 4 weeks when I was doing this and that from the forum!! Finally had to replace the iPhone from apple.

I've been using chatr wireless in Canada for a long time, first in my iPhone 3G then same SIMM in 3GS and finally cut the same SIMM myself to use in 4 and now Iphone 4s.

It always worked but yesterday iPhone 4S(replaced and the new one) started behaving strangely! I thought, “Oh! my god I'm back to square one again!!!!” No incoming no outgoing no response when you pull the SIMM out and once u call call someone the call won't go through or disconnect when you press the end call button.

I called apple, chatr no one knows what the **** is going on on.

I took the simm out used it in my iphone 4 and 3GS and it works! I took a different simm and used it in the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4S works too. After several cold starts same problem whenever I insert my chatr simm the iphone 4S won’t work!

Next i bought a new simm and had it cut through the phone guys same thing – I am now going out of my minds.

    The FIX:

The only option was to get another iphone 4S and try the non-working chatr cut simm! I did and the other iPhone 4S was working so out of frustrations I used his simm on mine, which is from Rogers just to check. For the darnedest reason my phone now works with the same simm which has not worked for so long!! What happened? Dying to figure it out!!! Maybe got a jolt from Rogers Simm as Chatr is one of there concern!
