I have read over 600 of these stories and find most of them to be over the top. When to the Apple Store & Best Buy and played with the display units on all day and none of them were hot. Bought one and it has not gotten any warmer than my ipad one. Really? Microsofts emplyees should spend more time coming up with good products, or copying them and move on. Wow! What a bunch of C#$$. If you have found one take it back to big foot at the genius bar.

No, it's not.  This is a technical support forum where people seek assistance for technical matters that are resolvable within a user-to-user community.  I'm not saying you don't/didn't have an issue, but there is nothing that anyone here can do to help you with, nor is posting your concern going to change anything.

The logical course of action for you would be to either (a) exchange the unit for another in case yours was defective, (b) get your money back, (c) deal with the added heat, and if it turns into a reliability issue then treat it as a warranty claim, and/or (d) register your concern with Apple (which is not here).

Wrong...! Just liek Apple ypou are wrong in trying to compare a laptop/desktop to the iPad.

First off, desktop and laptops use x86 processors and full GPU based graphic cards. They also usually always have fans, heatsinks and vents. Macbooks and iPad either have no vents or very small ones...iPad's have no active cooling whatsoever.

if you laptop's CPU or GPU heats up enough, the fans are dynamic and will spin faster to push the heat out the vents. If they are not successful, your computer will shut off...PERIOD.

116 degrees F for a laptop or desktop is ok because for one you arent holding a desktop, and you dont have to hold a laptop. If you are on a bus or train standing, or walking, you must hold your iPad.

No matter what you claim, 116 degrees is hot for a device that has no active cooling. What you aren't considering is, devices that have exploded were do to components getting to hot and damaginf other parts.

The ipad battery is in a protective wrapping...however, how do you know the excessive heat isn't burning the wrapping? What happens if the wires conencting the battery to the board catch fire, as it has happened before in the iPhone?

Apple will never admit to any wrong doing. They claim to text products and release them as being 100% ok, yet we can find so many problems with them in just a matter of hours or days?

Look at the the issues with iPhone 4.

Friends of Steve Jobs have stated that Jobs would hide facts to get his way. They knowingly released a phone the new had conenction issues which is why they had a bumper for just in case.

Apple could care less. All they care about is how many they can sell. They worry about fixing anything if at all, later.

As CR reported, it may not be much to be concerned about. Most people will put it down if it feels to hot. However, people have different tolerance levels when it comes to heat or cold. Just because it feels only warm to you, doesn't mean it isnt hot to anyone else.

I feel that 116 is to hot for a device that doesn't have active cooling. Thus I am staying awy from first production units. The later ones will be fixed when they arrive so I will buy one of them.

The guinea pigs who stand in line for countless hours to be first are the one who suffer.

Maybe if one blows up, and someone gets hurt, will we then see who was right...

If there was a problem with the 3, they would not have sold "millions" of them.

It would take quite a disaster to stem the eagerness for this product.  Large sales come from popularity and frenzy, not problem-free products.  All products have a percentage of issues, which I think you understand but are trying use popularity to make a case that there's no problem at all here.

The vast majority seem to be working well.

    That part is very true.

Great you're in the discussion of this non-issue and you don't even have a new iPad!

This has got to be the biggest group of rude people in one place ever.

With that said, allow the man an opinion eh, I know, he is blaspheming your precious, but not everyone is so "magically" subdued by the wonders of Apple, and simply look at the product as metal and glass, and hold certain expectations, or find concerns.

You guys jump on anyone mentioning even the slightest thing wrong and really beat the **** out of them.

That is your personal experience.  I have a new ipad and mine does not get hot and most of you are making a big deal out of nothing.  Did you drop yours also and cracked your screen because it was too hot?  Well, some people have said they have and that is a crack of s***!

I even doubt that most of these people even have a new ipad.  Let's put serial numbers on the posts, they can be verified as what type of ipad they are.

    Any takers?

I have had an open bet for $100 for anyone in the town where I live now, Tucson, AZ, if they show me an ipad that is too hot to hold, I will give them $100,00.  That was three weeks ago, so far no one has show up with one.  I might even go up to $150.00 just to prove that all this is a non-issue!

I noticed you deleted an answer.  Just a reminder.  Apple does not monitor these forums, forums moderators, like you and I, do moderate like in any other forum run by anyone.

Reporting someone to Apple regarding these forums will get you nowhere.  Just my advice.

Actually Alaska, using the report post button does get noticed by the forum moderators and if a post is out of line, they will remove it.  I've gotten hot in the heat of a "discussion" from time to time and even something I've written has been deleted......I try to stay cooler these days.....pun intended in light of the subject of this kind of amusing thread.......

That is what I said.  Moderators, which do not work for Apple, can remove a post or block you.  The other guy was saying that he can report it to Apple and my point to him was that it was pointless!

    Good day.

PS:  Moderators can be something and not have a sense of humor because they strictly follow the TOS for the forums.  I posted once a sarcastic note regarding how good the new ipad was, and if anyone was having the same luck as I.  They deleted it and infomed me very nicely why.

You! should not be here because you don't even own any Apple products.  I have a 8.9" Galaxy Tab besides my ipad, nice, not bad.  But baby, there is no comparison, am I right?

Oh I forgot, you can not have an opinion because you do not have an ipad...

Do you own a new ipad?  You are just wasting people's time with your regurgitating the android, FOSS mantra, regarding Jobs.  Which I know nothing about but neither do you, so I don't say anything against the man, but you do.  What does that make you?  A liar?  Your guess is as good as mine.

This is NOT directed at anyone specifically (apologies alaska99801, I had to reply through your comment):

Let's stop this madness, agree to disagree or something because this discussion is out of control and off topic now.

Be nice!!! Each individual is entitled to their opinion and it is NOT for someone to call someone a liar.

Obviously there HAS been a troll in here to disrupt the discussion...and OBVIOUSLY it has worked.

Either your new iPad runs cool, warm, very warm or even hot. So on that common sense remark, stop being so snarky everyone.

It just makes you look bad.

And what I wouldn't give to see the ppl arguing back and forth over who's right and who's not right sitting all together in a room so they can just scream their heads off at each other.

I think this discussion should just be pulled, period.
