    Just a couple of things...

I think I'm confused as to what is a MASTER and what is a PREVIEW.

The fact is... if I'm viewing the previews to edit, I need to get rid of this corruption!!!
If I open finder and locate the photos there (they're in my Aperture library), I still see corruption (however are these still PREVIEWS?)

I just tried importing into a different location (outside of the Aperture library) and it still corrupts images.

I use a time capsule, shall I try importing there??

You need to be more detailed about this, as you try different things.

    1) If you select a photo in Aperture that is not corrupt, and press the M key, that will show the Master without any adjustments -- does that work?  If you now do that with a corrupt image, what is displayed?

A Preview is what you see in the viewere in Aperture,  A thumbnail is what you see in the Brower or strip view of many images.

If your Aperture Library is Managed it means that when you import, the settings are to store in the Aperture Library, as oppose to put them someplace else, or if already on the computer, Where they before import.  If it is Managed, then in the Finder you can control-click on the Aperture Library, and choose Show Package Contents.  Once in the Package, you can look for a folder named Masters.  In that folder you will see a folder or each year, and in each year you will see folder for each month, and within each month you will see a folder for each day, and within a day there will be one or more folders, which if opened will show the Master images of a particular session of importing on that one day.  Can you do this?

If your library is not Managed, then more info will be needed, but basically in that case you can click on File, and choose Show in Finder and it will provide you with info for a path to where the Masters are located.

    Daniel,

how are you browsing your Aperture Library in the Finder?

If I open finder and locate the photos there (they're in my Aperture library), I still see corruption (however are these still PREVIEWS?)

If you open the library package with ctrl-click and selecting "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu, then you will see folders labelled "Masters", "Previews", and "Thumbnails". The "Masters" folder contains your raw masters, the "Previews" folder the previews rendered from your masters.

The fact is... if I'm viewing the previews to edit, I need to get rid of this corruption!!!

What I suspect is, that the corrupted previews are a symptom of your problem and not the cause. It might very well be that the master files are defective (already in the camera/card or while reading from the card) , but you do not notice it, because the previews that the camera generates are o.k. - during import, browsing etc., you only see these fine camera generated previews, but as soon as you start to edit your image, these previews are outdated and Aperture generates new ones. Then the corrupted master image files will be used to render the new previews, and now you see the corruption in the browser - at least, that was what happened to my images - they disintegrated before my very eyes ...

I'll try and answer all your questions...

    Ernie and Leonie
I can do what you said - and ctrl click my aperture library (in finder) and eventually get down to all the masters... none of which (from what I can see) are corrupted. So initial guess again, Aperture is corrupting the previews?

Does this help for a possible solution?

Importing the pictures through image capture seem OK thus view in Finder seem OK
Viewing them on my camera seem OK

Even viewing them before I import seem OK

Can you email me just one of the versions that are displaying as corrupted.  We must see what gets exported to rule out this simply being a graphics display problem, which by the way is where I am leaning that it is.

Do you use any other graphic intense applications like Final Cut or graphic intense games? Do you notice any of that distortion in other apps?

From your sample image, that looks like a graphics card issue. Are you near an Apple store to make a Genius Bar appt. and have them run some hardware tests?

    Just another thought.

Ernie, not too sure if the attachement would fit over email, so I've sent an email link through sendspace, just have to click and download. Take a look.

Even in preview (on the standard mac preview) it looks corrupted.

If anyone else wants to have a look...

    shuttersp33d

    thanks,

I don't use anything other than Aperture

This is my 2nd brand new mac... the previous one: harddrive failure after 3 months!

This one is about 2 weeks old, is there anyway of doing my own tests? (software to download maybe?)

    Daniel,

I had only asked for an email of a JPEG version, but this is better.  It appears to be the Master image of the .CR2 file.

Opened in Photoshop, CS5, in Graphic Converter, and in Aperture after import.  It is corrupted absolutely.

I have to back off the spectulation of a graphic problem.  This is something in the file itself.  But the apparent change to corrupt when first imported into Aperture is only the preview from the camera, which is quickly replaced by a Preview generated in Aperture.  Something is happening in the Camera, or on the memory card to cause this.  Do you have another memory card to try?

More after I check some info about your camera.

    Ernie

Btw, it had all the EXIF data, and also showed me the points of focus (center single point) because I happened to have that turned on in Aperture.

    Ok.

I should have another card yes, I shall take some shots tomorrow and see what happens.

If it's the card, does this mean it's completely dead? Or is there a way to fix it?

If it's the camera............. oh dear???

p.s thank you for having a look at that

What card is it, as in what brand, and what speed?

You did do a reformat of this card in the camera, didn't you as discussed earlier?

You could also try this card with shooting in JPEG only, to eliminate a writing error when recording the RAW files in the camera.

The image has been shot in Portrait aspect, and is not being rortated from Landscape in any app here.

    Sorry:

SanDisk 16GB class 10 (extreme pro?)

    I reformated yes.

I shall give that a go and let you  know the outcome tomorrow.

    Fingers crossed

    thank you

Class 10 would eliminate any speed problem, unless your 600D is not compatible with that level of card.

    Is it SDHC or SDXC?

That is fine.  I would have wondered more about the SDXC and this camera, but even that would probably be supposed to work.

Does you camera have an internal memory, too?

My new Nikon D800 uses both a CF card, and a SD card.  For the latter, to which I am directly video, I am using a 32 GB SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC UHS-1 card.
