Apr 3, 2012 8:34 AM in response to mabouby dredcomm,When you click Import in the Import from Camera window, it should prompt you for the Event you want to save the file too as well as analysis options. When you click Stop Import, the file should be created in the Event you chose. Is this not occurring?

Apr 3, 2012 8:59 AM in response to dredcommby mabou,Hi dredcomm,
Nope, no files in the event folder. No "Original Media", Optimized, or Proxy.
As I said, everything seems to act normally, FCPX even recognizes that the "camera" is a Sony DVMC-DA2 conversion box.... though FCPX thinks it is a camera.
After I Stop Import I am taken back to the FCPX window. The event still shows the Import Media and Import from Camera icons (instead of showing the recently imported clip). And the folders which were created when I made the event are all empty.
Grrrr...

Apr 3, 2012 9:09 AM in response to mabouby dredcomm,Where is the Event stored? If it's on another Firewire device, I would try capturing to your internal drive instead.
If that's not the case, I would start here:

Apr 5, 2012 12:20 PM in response to dredcommby mabou, dred, thanks for the link. I was hoping to receive a "hey dummy, you need to click this checkbox" answer.
The Event is on an internal drive. The process works just fine with a camera that FCPX can control, but doesn't appear to work as a (old FCP reference) "Capture Now"... capturing whatever is coming through the firewire port.
Might be related to a lack of timecode coming down the line. Even though the capturing process is acting as if it is working, I notice that the timecode data stays at all zeros.

May 9, 2012 5:34 PM in response to mabouby Max Mccarty,Hi,
Did you ever find a solution?
Here's what I found. I use both a Sony DVMC-DA2 and a Canopus ADVC110 to transfer customer files to digital video. The Canopus provides a little "sharper" original, but it is much more fussy with poor video. It will often momentarily freeze or drop frames. The Sony is much more forgiving and will happily transfer even poor quality 2nd generation VHS tapes.
FCP X works fine with the Canopus and sees it as a "device". It sees the Sony DVMC-DA2 as a "camera" and never starts recording video.
