I was having this issue too.

I am on Cablevision's Optimum Online (now with Boost, because I run an Exchange Server too.)

The issue with my iPhoto (using my .mac account for iPhoto) not sending was that the outgoing server was not set to use Optimum's outgoing server.  I changed it to my optimum user name, port 587, entered my password and unchecked SSL.

I could use port 25 and my exchange server, but decided not to setup a receive connector to relay.  The above is just easier.

The iPhoto accounts pane does not import the settings from Mail.app.  Please verify that the settings are the same with your Mail.app account as they are with the iPhoto one, don't rely on iPhoto to have it exactly the same.

NOTE:  This only applies to those using an iCloud email account that was converted from Mobile Me.

I kept getting errors about not being able to send an email from within iPhoto.  After trial and error I fixed by deleting both the email account and the MobileMe account.  You'll get some message about it removing albums from your iPhoto (this is okay because they will still be on MobileMe as long as it is active).  Then set up your iCloud email account first.  Test sending a message.  Then set your MobileMe account back up.  This worked for me.  Note.. MobileMe account is only needed if you still have a photo gallery set up in MobileMe.

I opened iPhoto preferences and deleted the already configured "MobileMe" account. I then clicked the plus "+" symbol/button to add an account and added my iCloud account information. Everything works now. My guess is that this may have something to do with legacy settings after the MobileMe shutdown last month.

Try selecting Mail as you email client for you Yahoo account in iPhoto's General preference pane.  That often works when going thru iPhoto doesn't.

If you need templates Mail has a number of photo templates.

    This worked for me;

Delete your e-mail accout in iPhoto (settings, accounts)

Add your iCloud account in iPhoto, using your e-mail adress (mac) and password, at username remove @xxx.xxxx

Leave everything else as it is. Restart iPhoto and y're good to go!

This worked for me. Thank you wtobiasjr!!

In addition, I had to change the port to matching the one in the Mail application (for me it was 993). I tried to get this to work like a million times, before I tried restarting the iPhoto app. Finally it worked!

So I recommend if you are using a Gmail account, make sure you've followed these steps.

    1. What wtobiasjr described about generating a temp password to grant iPhoto access to Gmail.

    2. Change "Port" in iPhoto>Preferences>Accounts>Gmail>Port to what you have in your Mail app.

    3. Restart iphoto

    4. Send out test photo email from iPhoto.

    And hopefully that should work!

I had the same issue, iPhoto complaining about my server not being able to connect.

I'd tried all of the steps in the forum up until your post.

I deleted the old @me.com account that is dearly missed. no joy.

I removed all my other email accounts and added my gmail account back in. no joy.

I tried ports: 25, 465, 993, and of course the one that Google actually wants: 587

I ensured 2 tier authentication was behaving.

The one thing I hadn't tried: #3: Restart iPhoto

Thanks for reminding me to go back to basics LL88

That's just what I did. However, iPhoto first tries to use the wrong outgoing server and then, after I have entered my iCloud account again, simply tells me that 'your email didn't go through'. I then want to send the photos via Mail... nice message: "if you don't send your email now, it will be deleted"! Wow, not only does this not work, Apple, on top of that, adds insult to injury. I'm furious. How can iPhoto not work with a fresh properly set-up account?

Ok, so, restarting iPhoto did the trick. It's still a shame you can't save your template in iPhoto. Had to do it all again. Thank you Apple! Not.
