A couple of weeks ago Aperture suddenly didn't recognize my lens anymore. It has always did before. I use Aperture version 3.2. The lens is Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM, but now it only shows up as "Unknown (174)  135mm". My camera is 5D Mark II. When the lens is mounted, I can go into the camera's menu and read that the camera recognize my lens correctly. So why doesn't Aperture? Is the problem my lens, or is it Aperture?

Not sure what caused the problem, but you could try the Troubleshooting Basics at the link below:

Note - I would steer clear of the 'Rebuild Database' option in First Aid Options until all other options have been exhausted. This has had some strange results reported in the past and should only be done after making a backup copy of the library.

This was reported by other users after the last camer raw update SeeEXIF lens code cannot be recognized

As i pointed out in that thread my situation was the reverse. My lens, a Tamron was unlisted befreo the last upgrade now it shows correctly.

    regards

All photos were corrupted after installing update RAW Compatibility 3.8 at september 1 2011.

This update corrupt exif data when import them on to Aperture Library.

I just updated to Aperture 3 a couple of weeks ago. My Sigma 12-24mm DG HSM II lens was not recognised by Aperture,  only 'unknown (137) 12-24mm' was indicated. Yesterday I downloaded the latest Digital Camera Raw Compatability Update 4.03 and since then my lens is recognised as Sigma 8-16mm with 1.4x converter,  which of course wrong.

    Anyone had similar trouble recently?

It clearly seems to be linked to the Raw update. Anyone can suggest  a solution?

I have the same problem but with my lens Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50/1.4.

At first time it shown as Unknown... then I wrote to support. They ask me to send some photos. In new RAW Compatibility (do not remember version) my problem was fixed but like in your case: 35 with converter 1.4. I wrote them again and they ask me to send aperture library with couple photos which were created with this lens. I send and in next or one after next RAW Compatibility version my problem was fixed.

So, you should wirte feedback to Aperture team, use for this menu element in Aperture: Aperture -> Provide Aperture Feedback. Describe your problem and wait answer.
