The autoruns program mentioned in the post here revealed a program called Speedbite Video Accelerator, which when uninstalled solved the problem with iTunes of not being able to connect to the iTunes Store. I had tried every other remedy suggested on the iTunes support page to noavail. Finally after 22 days of intense effort I found the answer.
