Apr 5, 2012 2:38 PM in response to tkblueyonderby mtq2223,I have an Apple exclusive network and home sharing still drops. I am convinced it is either ATV software or iTunes related. Changing your router will do nothing.

Apr 5, 2012 9:31 PM in response to tkblueyonderby Charmiepoo,tkblueyonder.........I, like most of the other folks posting here, had no problem with Homesharing dropping out until this lastest software update for Apple TV.......so i do think it is the Apple TV software that is the problem.

Apr 6, 2012 3:11 AM in response to Charmiepooby manpowre,go to your network adapter, either wifi on computer which hosts Itunes, and disable IPV6.
This solved it for me, and been working for hours now this morning, streaming out the favourite shows to my kids.
I read this in another thread and tried it, and now its been working for as long as I even has had since I got my new ATV3.

Apr 6, 2012 5:26 AM in response to manpowreby tkblueyonder,Thanks all for responding to my rant .... IPV6 that sounds interesting I will have to google it . I guess my point overall was that pre apple TV3 my sharing always dropped out between our laptops indoors after aprx 20 mins that's why I believe it's not the software in the ATV but more the fault of iTunes and home sharing, after all said and done given how many people are having problems would have thought its apples interest to sort a patch or fix etc

Apr 6, 2012 5:54 AM in response to tkblueyonderby Bdub12,I have an Apple router, and HomeShare drops. That isn't the issue. I think it was broken either in the last OSX update, or in the last iTunes update.

Apr 7, 2012 11:46 PM in response to Jeet Kby Oberhausen-Germany,Hello Guys,
we just bought the Apple TV yesterday.
When we came home i installed it right away and was very unsatisfied, with this High End product.
We have the same issue as described here, after aprox. 5-10min. Homeshare stops working, then i need the restart ituns and it works immediately again.
I have tested all given solutions, but non did work.
We have an IMAC mid 2011 and the ATV3
I also tested disabling IPv6 did not help either.
We are very unsatisfied with the Product and with Apple, i think i will drop all the Apple Stuff.
I will bring the ATV back to the Applestore, after Easter Egg session.
Best Regards from Oberhausen- Germany
Andreas

Apr 8, 2012 12:42 AM in response to Jeet Kby bregosanto,Hi, my ATV3 went on the blink last night. It suddenly lost internet connection and therefore resulting in the loss of AirPlay.
Reset and Restarted the device and my wireless box (an Airport Extreme). The ATV3 can see my home network but it cannot connect to the internet via it.
My Macs and ipads can so the internet is working.
Seems that there is an issue with ATV3?!
Apple can you help?

Apr 8, 2012 10:10 PM in response to bregosantoby SoundForSound,Home sharing with the new Apple TV / iTunes update is just broke. Only works for a bit unless you restart iTunes or disable / re-enable Home Sharing. Use to work great until the last updates. This is not a network (router, firewall, ...) issue - just a (bad) regression in Apples software. Hopefully they fix this soon, hard to believe its been broke this long already. The Remote app update also fails to connect to Apple TVs (but does connect to iTunes) for many people as well. Poor QA all around. :(
I have yet to see any suggestion that actually works other than reverting to previous versions of fwr / iTunes - which is a pain / joke to do.

Give Apple extensive feedback using the iTunes and Apple TV feedback pages on their website - if enough complaints are made, they will eventually do a fix (was going to say they might acknowledge the issue, but, ha ha, methinks not).
Just for the record, I've tried all of the suggested fixes posted in the various discussion threads - none worked. Sigh.

Apr 13, 2012 9:47 PM in response to Jeet Kby Tricksta333,I am having the same issues. I have lots of friends with PC who hate MAC products. I have an iphone and it is also glitchy. If apple could make the products work as described there would be no issue. Thje lack of recognition of issues/application to formulate resolution is pretty poor. Also for Apple to remove someones post suggesting againt purchase of this until rectified I find as being quite restrictive, if an issue exists, fix it or make aware those who intend to purchase said product. I believe it is called business ethics.

Apr 13, 2012 11:18 PM in response to Jeet Kby abby1123,Check to make sure there is a very good signal btw your wired and wireless network. Also make sure your internet download speed is good if not, contact your internet service provider to increase your download and upload speed. It might fix your problem

Apr 13, 2012 11:36 PM in response to abby1123by hilly2000,Unlikely - the issue most people are experiencing is loss of connectivity of Home Sharing between the ATV and their iTunes PC/Mac. ATV to Internet for many is fine, and no dropouts or connectivity loss occurs when using the ATV with web sources. It is betwene the ATV, and the local iTunes source (PC/Mac).

Apr 14, 2012 12:00 AM in response to hilly2000by djbutt63,Yes - like a lot of people, I have no problem connecting the ATV to the Internet, or playing from the iphone or ipad to the ATV via Airplay. The issue is that homesharing comes and goes, which makes the ATV inaccessible to itunes. I've also tried all the fixes here save going wired from my router to the ATV, which is difficult due to the physical layout of the house. It's extremely frustrating as I basically bought the ATV to play music from my computer on the stereo, much like I did with my old airport express, and I have not been able to get it to work.

Apr 14, 2012 12:24 AM in response to Jeet Kby deetillehdeh,Hi, same problem here, just set up ATV3 and everything works fine except ' Home Sharing ' which keeps dropping out after 10 mins or so. I can go back and turn off and then turn on home sharing on itunes and it works again for approx 10 mins then drops out again. This has nothing to do with signal strength etc, as mine is excellent ( wireless ). I can access my music on itunes as i subscribed to ' iTunes Match ' and all other functions work well which works well, however really frustrating when trying to watch videos etc from my PC via ' Home Sharing '.
Apple need to get this sorted out as they must be aware of this issue which seems to affect many users

Apr 14, 2012 7:22 AM in response to Jeet Kby emielstroeve,I've got it working again. Homesharing and airplay both work for almost a day and before that for only 5 minutes.
- ipv6 disable didn't help, I disabled it everywere.
- switching from ethernet to wifi on the ATV did the trick. In the original setup the atv was connected to a local switch which was connected tot the WAN router. So i only unplugged ATV and configured it to use wifi, that's all....
bear in mind that before the update of ATV and iTunes the original setup (ethernet) just worked fine for me (and homesharing/airplay).
so I'm sort of happy, but curious what will heppen next....
cheers
emiel
