Q: IMEI not found by Carrier, how to unlock it?

Hi folks, today i tried to contact AT&T for their unlock requirements but I had a strange surprise: My IMEI was not listed in their system. At live chat they told me that my e-mail would be send to Apple to check what is happening, but still nothing happend (don't know if such promise was made or not).

I bought this iphone in eBay and it is supposed to be locked to AT&T (saw it on box and model).

Do you guys have any idea what could be the problem? Is there any e-mail support that Apple would answer? I can't receive/make calls since i am overseas right know to use their call service.

Well, if AT&T does not have your phone's IMEI number in their system, are you positive the phone is locked to AT&T? Have you tried another sim in the phone, other than an AT&T sim?

I know this is odd, but i am considering that it is locked to AT&T since the model is MC319LL.

I tried to use other SIMs but got only "invalid" message. I don't have a AT&T SIM to confirm it (sadly), but i was hoping that there were other ways to check my lock situation.

(Not sure if Apple would release such information, even through e-mail)

Try going to an Apple store where you are located. They should be able to confirm the staus of your phone.

Well, I called Apple and...."your phone´s carrier is AT&T"

I guess this iphone must be a ninja device, I´ll call AT&T again

I learned -- after much discussion with AT&T and Apple -- that AppleCare replacement phones may not have their IMEIs listed. I had to (a) ask AT&T to update the IMEI on my account (to the new AppleCare replacement phone IMEI), then (b) use my ORIGINAL IMEI [from my pre-replacement phone] on AT&T's website to unlock the phone. (Apple could tell me the original IMEI.) Good luck!
