Apr 4, 2012 12:55 PM in response to MlchaelLAXby Csound1,As you have a habit of making up posts and passing them off as being from another you'll forgive me but I put no credence in those who post untruths.

Apr 4, 2012 1:24 PM in response to Chris J Wittby MlchaelLAX,So going back to the original post in this thread:
Chris J Witt wrote:
I'm considering upgrading to Lion, mostly due to the fact it has drivers for Nvidia's 500 Series, so ATY_Init will be happy with it.
But, one problem... No rosetta, and a lot of the programs I use or test are not universal binary (Primarily Cocoa PPC or Carbon). So that raises the issue.
How would I go about getting Rosetta on to Lion? I'm assuming that it wouldn't be as simple as copying some Frameworks and Kexts... Do any solutions exist for this yet, like hacks or mods, or is it impossible? (Or too soon?)
No one has yet successfully moved Rosetta over to Lion.
One solution: Run Snow Leopard in Parallels 7 while in Lion, as I have posted in this thread and on other threads where similar questions have been asked.
Some, with no authority to do so, will attempt to dissuade you from doing so by claiming that it is a license violation. To date, Apple has never released an official statement in support of this position. Yet these people continue to do a disservice to those seeking a solution that works, over and over and over again.
Do your own research and come to your own conclusion.
To those who need assistance in following the steps to implement Snow Leopard in Parallels 7, I look forward to your questions.
To the naysayers:

Apr 4, 2012 2:55 PM in response to babowaby babowa,Having read through today's lively discussions, I have learned the following:
If anyone has a question regarding running SL in VM (or, for that matter, any other point not explicitly covered in the SLA) in the future, I will recommend that the poster contact Apple since they are the only ones who would actually know their intended interpretation of any SLA. Unless anyone involved in today's postings was involved in the creation of the SLA's and/or works for Apple, their opinions and interpretations are all speculation (including mine). So I believe it best to let Apple handle such a matter which may - or may not - have legal consequences, especially since these forums are for technical questions.
Thanks to everyone whose posts helped me come to this conclusion.

Apr 4, 2012 4:25 PM in response to babowaby Király,Fact: We don't know why VM vendors disallow Snow Leopard from running in their VMs, because the reasons have never been made public.
Fact: The Snow Leopard SLA allows one copy of Snow Leopard to run on a Mac at a time. No prohibition against virtual machines exists in the SLA. In fact, "virtual" or "virtual machine" do not even appear in the SLA.
Fact: The Snow Leopard SLA applies to Snow Leopard only. It does not apply to Lion, nor does Lion's SLA apply to it. Whatever license terms that may or may not exist in the SLAs of other products have no relevance to what terms exist in the Snow Leopard SLA.
The above are facts and are not really open to interpretation.
Anyway, I've had enough of this thread. I'm unsubscribing. Readers of this thread can examine the facts and make up their own mind.

Apr 5, 2012 6:12 AM in response to Királyby Kurt Lang,Why are you chastising babowa? All she did was state how the arguments of this thread affected her decision. Further, recommending a user contact Apple is not in any way saying anyone's else opinion is wrong, but that it is the best way to get what should be the correct answer.
-
Apr 10, 2012 5:46 PM in response to Kurt Langby MlchaelLAX,I am sure that Kiråly would respond to you directly if he hadn't left this thread, but I do not see his post as chastising babowa, let alone anyone else...
I think he was following up on the posts he made earlier to this thread in his sayonora to this thread!
Sometimes hitting "REPLY" to the last thread is the easiest way to make a new post.

May 13, 2012 3:54 AM in response to Chris J Wittby Stuthejag,I just contacted Applecare who told me explicitly that 10.6 server is licenced in virtualization, client isn't. Seems pretty clear, unfortunately.

If they told you not to buy Dell, would you not buy Dell?
Did you get his name and number? For that matter can we have your name and number, too?
If you do not want to virtualize Snow Leopard in Lion: Don't do it!

Michael, it's been inferred that you a liar before now, does that mean you can we have your name and number, or do you apply different rules to yourself.
If you do not want to virtualize Snow Leopard in Lion: Don't do it!

Yes and seeing that Rosetta has been dead for over 10 months now, it still amazes me that people need to use PPC programs at all with the choices around. Anything that won't run in Lion is too outdated and will be further outdated with the intro of Mountain Lion and future OSXs.
Good Luck

You seem to not understand the nuance of saying something facetiously. I have had to describe this form of speech to you before; so if you do not understand what it means: please look it up...
My point is that his story is anecdotal...
Just because some AppleCare support representative makes a pseudo-legal statement does not make it true! Yes, Apple would rather you purchase Snow Leopard Server... Who knows what the context of the statement is? Perhaps, in Apple's license agreement to PARALLELS, Apple requires Parallels to only support Snow Leopard Server and not Snow Leopard Client. I am not a party to the Apple-Parallels license agreement, hence I know not its terms and I am not bound by it.
Instead you chose to insult me on a public forum: so in the future, I will consider the source, bite my virtual tongue and ignore you too (just like I do your buddy Mulligan!)
As I said to Stuthejag I will say to you, if you do not want to virtualize Snow Leopard in Lion, don't do it!
And for the record, the proper quote is: "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel!"

Michael, tut tut, I was not being facetious, I do find your comments to be childish and disingenuous, and as for your attempts to instruct my English please note for your future reference I find you Lax, both in name and nature and therefore have no interest in it.

Or Virtualization is the last refuge of the computer illiterate. Do you sit by your computer 24/7 waiting for the word Parallels to appear in these forums? Do you ever get time to actually use your Mac? Do you...................this really is wasting words on your kind.
Don't get Parallels, get a life.
Bye
