Apr 10, 2012 9:52 PM in response to rona11by X423424X,When in doubt, smc and pram reset. May not work but always worth a try.
Boot from your recovery partition to repair/verify the drives.

Apr 11, 2012 1:01 PM in response to rona11by X423424X,Some ideas and suggestions:
Have you checked the sound preferences to make sure you have chosen the correct output device and the output volume is set and not muted (checkbox on the right of the output volume)?
In Sound preferences, click Sound Effects and then click a sound in the sound alert choices. Do you hear the sound from that?
Try setting up another account (Accounts preferences) and see if you have sound in that account.
Try booting in safe mode and see if there is sound that way.
Your machine is still under applecare so consider taking it to apple to look at.
My philosophy on reinstalling the OS:
I generally never advise reinstalling the OS unless someone really damages their OS. That's because I always think the problem can be solved other ways and also if you simply replace the OS while keeping all data intact I don't think it will solve the problem. And if you wipe the disk and do a clean install, yes, that may solve the problem but it's then a lot of work to get back where you were having to reinstall everything. This is why it is always recommenced to have backups of your system.

Apr 14, 2012 2:03 PM in response to rona11by fane_j,A kernel panic may be caused by a hardware issue. Followed by what you describe, it suggests the failure of a component of the audio subsystem.
Do you hear the Mac's initial chime upon startup?
Have you checked the audio section in System Profiler's Hardware section?
Did you try a pair of headphones, or a USB speaker?
If you are sure you did reset the SMC and NVRAM, as suggested by X423424X, to no effect, and the above are negative, then you should boot from the Install DVD (or Lion recovery partition—although, if you're using Lion, you're in the wrong forum). If there is still no sound and no output device found, then it's very likely that the logic board needs to be replaced. Take your MBP to an Apple Store or AASP for a check.

Then you should have posted in the Lion forum.
no system profiler in it
It's called System Information in Lion

there is no start up chime too
Sounds like the audio subsystem is kaputt. No remedy but replace the logic board, I'm afraid.
