Here is the discussion where I found the advice that worked for me:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2623925?start=30&tstart=0

I don't think this screen shot will help you any as it doesn't seem to tell you anything. Sorry.  Perhaps the other discussion thread will be of some use.  I agree that this is unbelievably frustrating.  This is the first movie where I used a number of transitions, but other than that change, I didn't do anything that I had not done before.  I am guessing it is some glitch created by a program update. Sorry.

I'll keep this in mind next time I run into this problem.  I imported the file into Final Cut Pro X and "shared" it to YouTube from there.  And guess what?  It worked.  Luckily I was able to "multi-undo" the deletions, or else I'd still be working on getting my video back into shape.

    Thanks for your help!

For anyone still trying to figure this out, I finally found something that worked for me.

I tried everything above and in other posts and nothing worked.

All I did was opened the problem project and hit select all and copied all the clips.

Then I went back and started a new project so I wasnt messing with my good copy. Paste your clips. (you will only have your video clips and not any audio.)

At this point just start from one end or the other and delete one clip at a time and try to export.

You should keep getting the error until suddenly it works.

At that point you know the clip you just deleted was the problem clip.

Go back to you original project, find the problem clip, give it the boot and replace it with a nice fresh one.

Export or share and take a deep breath.

    Hope it works for you

    I get the error message:

The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Error in user parameter list)

I've tried exporting and sharing in everyway possible. No special characters in the title. Have exported much larger movies... Have over 250 GB of disk space. Have restarted a couple times. Only running iMovie, no other applications running when trying to export.

iMac 2.4 ghz core duo running OSX 10.6.8.

    iMovie 9.0.4 (1634).

    No stills, just video.

Some video imported using fliped4mac becuase it was in the windows player format.

Tried all of the fixes in this forum. Also tried removing unused clips to trash.

I have a company wanting to pay me for this corporate video I made for them... but if I can't burn it do dvd, I won't be getting paid and not looking forward to telling them they've been wasting their time working with me.

I don't know for sure if this will help any one else or not but I wanted to post what I had done because I had a great amount of frustration with this issue and there  did not seem to be any answers out there except extremely complication suggestions. It seems I had not optimized the videos that I had imported. I  highlighted each event and then  clicked optimize- full size. Now I can share my videos to idvd without getting that error message. Maybe that will help someone else if they have not already tried optimizing.

This did not work for us (deleting clips one at a time) BUT that was the problem - a BAD CLIP.

BTW - we also have a problem with the preview window not working. It was as if the window was missing - you could not see the video playing either in full screen mode or in the small preview window inside iMovie.

We copied the complete project file from the old project to the new one. We deleted each clip from the end of the video to the beginning - no dice.

We then did it again deleting the very first clip - no dice.

We deleted the com.apple.imove preference files - no dice.

Then we decided to shut down the laptop (not restart - sometimes it makes a difference). We then restarted and opened iMovie.

The copied project was there BUT the very first clip was missing. (BTW - the preview window was now working). We redid the opening clip and now the movie saved.

I'm not sure what happened but I suspect it had something to do with  bringing the laptop out of sleep mode. Many of my teachers just close the lid rather than shutting down.

When we were getting ready to shut down her machine a warning popped up about someone being connected to her laptop. That was, probably, me, yesterday, when I connected to her laptop to copy a file to my computer to upload to Vimeo. The connection had been broken on my end but, evidently, not on hers. So that might have had something to do with the corruption in iMovie.

So...long story short...the reboot seemed to fix everything.

    Hope that helps.

This worked for me, thank you!! I duplicated my project (for good measure) then narrowed down the clips bit by bit until I found the problme clip. In my case I used the same clip 3 times in a row on a faster speed. Guess iMovie just couldn't handle it. So I created 3 versions of the original clip  so I didn't have to use the same one. Worked! Six months of my life saved!

Thank you so much for the fix. I've never been more mad at a computer. I entered into a movie competition and all my work was on my mac (which won't run facetime or any microsoft products). But when I started my movie imovie would work. Of course it failed when I needed it. Your solution saved the day! One of clips that used the reverse effect was causing the problem. Actually a really easy fix.
