You may be confused about your system. Apple hasn't shipped a new Powerbook since 2006, and never with OS X 10.6.
If you have 10.6.8 (click the apple on the left top of the screen, and about this mac, to confirm), that means you have an Intel-based system, which are newer and generally still supported by Apple. If you post the other information on about this mac and describe the system (case color/material) we can probably tell you what you have.
You can add an external SD card reader. Two examples are http://store.apple.com/us/product/H6333VC/A/moshi-universal-media-reader and http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Pocket-Memory-Reader-GFR209/dp/B001AW8W7A/ref=sr_1_ 3?ie=UTF8&qid=1334319241&sr=8-3
Your profile list your Mac as a MacBook, not a PowerBook, and you are running OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard which is not vintage or obsolete. Look at this Apple page about vintage and obsolete. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1752
Oh, I'm too dumb to be unsupervised...you know, I did get half the info from clicking on About this Mac. The other half I got from...I can't say it....the box that my neice's old PowerBook was shipped in ...in, that's right: 2006.
You Mac guys are swell. You solved my problem and didn't mock me, as I deserved to be.
I'm going to, um...go now.
Thanks again for the perfect help.
PS I tried to click on the legend to give you guys points but no go.
