Make sure the box 'Sync with this device over wifi' under summary tab is checked; you device is on the same wifi network.
Shut down your router, computer and Device.
Now restart them in following sequence.
Computer and launch iTunes
Wait for a few minutes until it detects the device and you re good to go.
I tried all of the above on my Win 7 64 bit machine to no avail. What finally solved my problem was this post http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2553 . It turns out that my firewall had the iTunes listed for the one found in C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes, not the C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes directory. Once I added the correct one, all worked great.
