    Hey guys,

Got the same problem! Anywhere between 5 and 10 min of the call the sound drops, I can hear them but they no longer can hear me. It works again after reinstalling the program but then again after 10 min the problem reappears. HELP! Have no WiFi here to FaceTime with my iPhone and the internet connection is too crappy for Skype videocalls (FaceTime is no problem though, the first 10 min)(am in Australia for 5 months).

I have the sme issue going on.  To fix it, merely quit Facetime and then reboot facetime.  No need to delete and reinstall the app.  I think its a SW issue as I can make VoIP phonecalls with my MacAir while having the problem in Facetime.

I have the same issue.  Just bought the wife a new iPad (3rd gen).  From my iPad2 (running iOS5.1) to the new iPad works just fine.  From my MacBookPro (15" running OS 10.6.8) to the new iPad, the audio is on for maybe a minute and then drops out (on the iPad - sound is fine on the MacBook).

I have the same exact problem.  Audio from macbook pro facetime to ipad facetime drops after short while.  The problem with all these forums is as soon as a consensus forms about the problem and it gets well defined, someone comes in with a claim that it is something else (or can be fixed by something that doesn't fix it) and the whole discussion gets derailed for a time.  Hopefully, we can get back to the fundamental problem.

Same problem here on Snow Leopard 10.6. Facetime works for about 5 minutes, then the person on the other end can't hear me anymore. Restarting the app fixes it for another 5 minutes until they can't hear me again.

All my sound settings are correct (internal mic) and the sound settings window can recognize sound from the internal mic. Can someone please fix this app?

I can see this is never going to be fixed by Apple. We've been discussing for over a year on just what happens with all the various settings and combinations and apparently none have anything to do with what the problem is.

I know Facetime comes as a built-in app on my iPad and I don't think I've ever lost sound on it.

I had to buy the app for my iMac and that seems to be the place to start.

How about if I were to throw away the application and go to the Apple Store and buy it back?

How can I go about throwing out all the Facetime files before buying it back?

Doesn't anyone have a clue as  to what would happen with a reinstallation? Maybe at least with enough of us trying we could pin down the time and place when it starts and see if there is a common denominator?

You're correct, this is never going to be fixed by Apple, they just don't seem to care about this problem. I would assume that's because not enough people use FaceTime for the Mac.

I'm of the few people on this thread that seemed to be making progress with Apple. I was in regular communication with a senior tech, who was in communication with the engineers. I sent in several pieces of data from my computer, multiple times, at Apple's request.  I thought there was some progress being made at one point, but I have now given up on that idea, and I only use FT on my iPhone and iPad now.

The ONLY immediate solution for this, which I suggested more than once to the senior tech who was working with me, is to simply re-release the beta version of FT for the Mac, which worked perfectly, and did not have this sound issue.  I used the FREE beta version for months before I was forced to buy the paid version, since the beta expired.  Everyone in this thread who used the beta version also had no problem with it.  All Apple has to do is re-release that and problem solved. But for some reason they won't do that.

There is NO solution or fix for this problem. I have tried EVERYTHING more than once.  Also, it doesn't matter what machine you're on, or what OS version your running.  The fact is, the code in FT for Mac is simply faulty. I was going to use another "F" word, but I chose not to.

I would just suggest that everyone request their $1 back from Apple.

Yes, this is one of the many annoying traits of a company with hubris that is also the leading symbol of technological advance in our society.  Sad but true. Everyone ought to be writing Apple with (constructive) criticism about annoying and hard to comprehend any reason for issues for their panoply of ever improving products.  They seem to have the attitude of "we make the best, so deal with it".  As a user and stock holder of Apple, I love 'em, but that's been pi**ing me off for years.  Why does one need to buy two software upgrades to get from Tiger to Lion?  Why doesn't Face Time function as easily as Skype?  Why are their Apple ID and me.com ID's not combinable and frequently mixed up in regard to iTunes vs. iCloud?  Why do we need Lion for iCloud?  What if an older machine is not really upgradeable and the person isn't rolling in dough?  Why are my contacts being mixed up if a person has the same name and no last name when syncing my machines and iPhone with MobileMe (soon to be iCloud after I exhaust the webhosting I paid for in June)??????  Why do my sound buttons on my iMac not work anymore? Why these petty little stupid annoying as **** problems with a company that considers itself the Star Trek of our civilization?  We don't expect perfection every time, Apple, but could you listen to us and give us some reasons why? *** APPLE?!?!?!?

    ´╗┐hey people

i Am giving up. i am writing from germany...it is 5pm here now and i have been searching for 8 hours for this f***ing problem now.

i have the same problem. me (iphone), girlfriend (mac). we facetime 10-20 min and then suddenly I (iphone) cant hear her. everything else works, skype works, too

30 minutes ago, i have found this thread and it was really my last hope. 11 pages about one single f***ing bug and the result is always the same: no solution, no help, no fixing

and the end I have a theory based on some insider news of a friend who just shortly joined apple in europe. you won't believe me...Apple programmed the FaceTime software on purpose this way to annoy the users and make them quit the conversations. the data volume on facetime is high on the other devices. and there aren't that many mac users. so they implemented this software bug with the new update to decrease at least the data volume of mac users, i guess. this should be the reason why Apple don't react to this problem and don't comment. Thats so sad! Shame on you!

Same problem as everyone else on here. It is extremely dissapointing that there hasn't been a single response from an Apple rep on 11 pages worth of complaints. So much for great customer service. More and more I'm feeling that Apple is more concerned with profits and making their shareholders happy than they are with making the actual customers.

    Hi Everyone,

Perhaps its time for a different strategy for getting the word through to Apple.  Instead of putting this in the discussions, perhaps a comment on the App Store where people are buying this will get their attention.  I posted a comment describing the general problem with a reference to this thread. If other similar comments go up and these get rated as "helpful", the problem might get some attention.

Would you mind putting the link up, and I bet we can get lots of folks to contribute to that. I will for sure. Thanks so much for this great idea. Time to be a little more proactive. Thanks!

Not sure how to link to the app store.  But at the moment, if you sort comments by "most recent", its the top comment (written by BobbyOrr67 - what can I say, I'm Canadian)

    Bump

Same here. Running 10.6.8. Facetime with someone on iphone4 + 4s and they can't hear me after a few minutes. Facetime to another mbp is no problem and works for hours.
