Try these DNS addresses in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
Then click OK.
See if makes a difference. If not, just delete the addresses.

Thanks for the quick reply. That's the URL for OpenDNS right? What's your logic for entering those? I can resolve other addresses fine n Safari.

I tried that but it did not work. Still a weird problem. Now I have been able to figure out that it only happens when I connect to the corporate network via VPN.
