Q: iDVD on Lion does not recognize the Super Drive as supported?
Sorry, if this has been answered before, but I could not find a similar post:
Since I upgraded to Lion I have the following problem: On both my MacBook Pros iDVD does not recognize the optical Superdrive as supported, while the Finder and Disk Utility have no problem to burn DVD-R dvds. If I export the finished project from iDVD as disk image and then use Disk Utility to burn the image to DVD, the resulting video DVD plays fine on any Mac ind DVD player, but iDVD refuses to use the optical drive.
Are there any settings in Lion or iDVD that I need to change, so that iDVD will be able to recognize the optical drives in my MBPs as supported under Lion? With SnowLeopard I never had a problem on a MacBook Pro with a similar model.

My take is that it is Lion that is doing this since you report that your drive is acknowleged in System Profiler and you can burn from Disk Utility.

P.S: Reinstall will have to wait, for the only installation media I could find are PowerPC installer media, no Intel media.
If the installer is PowerPC you can try to install Rosetta from a 10.6 install disc which has been reportedly worked for installing other legacy software under Lion.
