I'm having the same issue but the AAC convert box wasn't checked to start with. Seems to sync some iTunes purchased songs just fine but others won't. Some of the ones that will sync are newer than ones that won't.

I've got the latest iTunes and iOS5 on iPhone, and have just managed the following workaround:
- Back up the tracks causing an issue
- Delete the tracks from iTunes
- Go to "iTunes Store"
- Choose "Purchased" on the right
- Choose "Music" (there may be a possibility this option isn't available in your country)
- Find your song and click on the iCloud icon to redownload
- Sync when downloaded
Your mileage may vary of course, but I hope this helps.

Thanks Simon From Chorlton. Your solution worked like a charm for me. Used the "Purchased" list then the "Download Previous Purchases" option in the lower right-hand corner to get to the re-download song method working. And you're right, until I manually deleted it from iTunes the "download from cloud" icon didn't show. Thanks again!

I found that this tool fixed the issue:
What you do is select the files in your iTunes library and drag them to Mp3 repair.
It will then give you the option to repair them and once that's done, the iTunes conversion will work and thus Sync well with you i* devices.

Same problem here. Since I´ve updated to iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 I can´t sync some musicfiles to my iphone and ipad. I made a clean install an then I tried to sync my library. The Files are "selfripped" from a CD in the apple-lossless-format. So I can´t reload them.

My work around for this was to highlight the album causing problems, right click, Creat AAC Version, then when it's finished I delete the original files and re-sync. Since I can't really tell the difference in quality, this solution works fine for me.

I am just totally fed up with iTunes and Apple!!! As a PC user, it is just near impossible to ever have a clean upgrade experience. I have an iPhone 3g and after the 5.0 upgrade I got NO errors but all music was wiped clean from my iPhone. Now when I synch (with all music showing in iTunes and ready to be copied, NOTHING copies. My calendar is updating so I know some synching is occurring (but no longer even get a message on my iPhone during synching that a synch is indeed even taking place). All podcasts and music GONE and no way to synch any of it back.
Do the geniuses at Apple ever respond to our angst in this forum or do they just let us all hang out there in the breeze --- half my PC friends went to droids and abandoned the BEST device on the market for phone/etc (the iPhone) but now I think the time has come to finally leave.... if Apple ever hopes to get beyond the 11-15% of the market, they have to treat the non-Mac user with more respect!
Anyone have any suggestions??
I plan to go to the Apple store (get an appointment) and go in with a big sign stating "PC Users will need to Revolt because this is becoming "revolting."
I hope someone responds to this -- I shutter at the thought of what would happen if I restore to the original settings!!! I might then not be able to synch ANYTHING!!

Norman, sorry to hear you are having troubles.
Apple does not monitor or respond to posts on these forums. These are USER forums, so you will only ever get responses from other users.
Hopefully you have been backing up for iPhone when you do syncs. That is an option in iTunes, and if you have a backup, perhaps you could restore it. If that doesn't work, calling Apple support and/or going to an Apple Store (WITHOUT the sign ) would be a next best approach. If that doesn't work, I would use the "Restore" command in iTunes to restore your iPhone, and try syncing again. As long as your iTunes (on your computer) library is complete, it should be totally safe.

Thanks Simon. I had 28 songs with this problem. Deleting and redownloading the tracks fixed it. If you have iTunes Match, then the process is a little easier, as you can do it for tracks that didn't originally come from the iTunes Store. My flow (if you have iTunes Match enabled):
2) After sync finishes, use Grab or Captur or whatever to take a screenshot of the window that lists all the "problem" tracks. I had to enlarge that window and grab it in two shots to get the full list.
3) Find each problem track in your iTunes library and delete it. DO NOT check the box that says "Also delete this song from iCloud."
4) Create a smart playlist as shown here.
(To add that third line, you hold down the "option" key while you click the + button.)
5) That playlist will contain all the songs that you just deleted, and it will show the iCloud download button for each one. Click the iCloud download button next to the *playlist name* in your list of playlists in order to download all of them with one click.
6) Sync with no errors (hopefully)!

I had the same issue. I resolved it.
Here is how:
In iTunes, find the song(s) that are not syncing. Delete them from iTunes (including the original file - Move To Trash) and then redownload them from the iTunes Store.
To do this, go to the iTunes Store and click on Purchased in the right hand menu column. There you find Not On This Computer and all the songs you just deleted. Download them (all) and then re-sync your iPhone.
This should work!
