Isn't it ironic that I post questions about global on-the-fly spell checking in Apple's ASC only to discover it uses a spell checking program that defeats global spell checking capability?

I'm not even a MBP user yet, nor do I have any interest in 'programming'.  I appreciate your confirmation(s) here though and its nice to know there is a 'work-around' but really...?

Is Apple going to straighten this out with a proper solution here in the ASC?  Since Jive doesn't seem to do anything until the green check mark is toggled it seems like an easy permanent fix would be to disable the option if one is using a far more robust global checker through OS X (or Windows 7 like me right now)?

I don't mind living with something 'bad' like this for even a few months knowing that it will be getting permanently fixed.  Is Apple going to be permanently fixing this problem or are they in some early stage of denial?

This is helpful for me to know because I am still very much into accessing Apple, how fast they fix hardware and/or software problems/issues, and whether I'm going to be sliding easily into a MBP (from 25 years of Windows only) or jumping out of control into a frying pan.

These forums seem an aberration to Apples hardware/software products.

Apple makes great products that try to make computing easier.  Their not focus group driven.  Things will work different with apple products.

To get the built-in spell checker, you can also click on html which lets you see the html source & you get the built in spell checker.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a fix to the spell checker.  It's been a year & still we do not have the system spell checker.  I find it very disappointing that the fix appear so easy and nothing has been done.

It's probably a political problem.  Jive spent a lot of effort to implement their spell checker & now we want to get rid of it.

Say you are thinking about buying an apple produce, but the forums were such a mess they you may stay with windows.

I left Apple some strong feedback.  I will no doubt repeat some of it on the phone when I call in for technical support.  It sounds like in this respect Apple can get into as much trouble as Microsoft.

BTW, are there moderators around these forums who can delete  topics by request from the original posters if ill conceived and never answered?

Thank you.  I don't hold my breath for Microsoft...it is too bad you are teaching me not to hold my breath for Apple.  I take it that Apple does not read these forums at all--that they are serviced only by knowledgeable Apple users?

Ha!  That is so funny.  I just turned on the HTML option and discovered to my glee that the on-the-fly spell checker not only works but you right click on a word to make your choices--just like the good 'ol PC.  LOL!

Yes.  Although, I don't think these scenarios would cause them to delete a post. Got to break the forum rules.

Once you have so many points, 200??, you get the report post link appearing on a post.

Until then, you can create a discussion in this forum and make a request.  Someone with more point will soon forward on the request to apple.

While not formally acknowledged by apple, they are supposedly reading this forum ( Apple Support Communities > Using Apple Support Communities > Discussions ).   There is another forum for those who have reached level 6 & those folks report apple follows this forum.

These forums are a great resource for users of Apple Products. It's almost worth it to buy apple to get a use out of these forums.  The iPad forums are a little wilder.

The fact that Apple stuck with Jive makes me suspect that Jive is paying someone off. Apple can make a VASTLY SUPERIOR product to anything Jive has ever done; it REALLY is time for Apple to use a pittance of their BILLIONS of $$$ slush fund to buy Jive Software, rewrite the software so that it works, and put this and all previous Jive Software abortions out of their misery.

I was looking forward to the new software last year and was so disappointed that all it was was the old software tarted up, and with input from Mark Zuckerberg added. I very, very, rarely visit AD any more.

Yet here you are...  Is ASC the only place where Jive will rear its ugly head?  I do hope something like Notepad or Pages doesn't use Jive?  From what I gather both just like Safari and Mail should or could use the built in OS X Lion global spellchecker?

Jive makes "collaboration & social business software." It runs on the server farms that power high traffic sites like this one. It isn't personal computer software.
