Depends on the website in question.   Webmasters use a variety of tools for portraying websites.  Your mileage may vary depending on the website you visit.   And since Macs can now run both Windows and Mac OS X, that question becomes even more complicated since some web masters optimize their website for Windows, while others for Mac.

Chrome has been getting a lot of press about its speed.

From experience; Google Chrome is less than secure ... I nearly caught a severe case of Macdefender from it!    Moreover Google is becoming very controversial in terms of its moneymaking activities and it probably won't be long before Chrome is similarly afflicted.

In my opinion Firefox is currently the best browser; speed is not the essence if it is accompanied by security problems.

Actually, despite how I don't care for it, Safari is the fastest browser on the Mac.

I've been keeping up with the latest tests and Safari smokes everyone else, it's likely because Apple is applying special attention/favor to Safari that isn't available for other browser makers.

On Windows Firefox was the fastest in teh latest ArsTech roundup, but Chrome is right there next to them.

Firefox on the Mac can be greatly speeded up with certain *cough*  tweaks and other OS X and plug-in tweaks tht reduce all the crap of the Internet.

My web pages load in about 1 second on my FF with 20 mp/s and a host of add-ons, in fact it's so fast that I've actually had trouble sometimes with errors on the ASC forum which is made with something called Jive according to the error page I got once.
