Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...
And/or iStat Pro...

While it's good to have a temp monitor this doesn't sound like a temperature problem, particularly if it is only affecting your widgets.
Please post the picture using the little camera tool in the posting toolbar. Your .png link didn't work.

1. See what widgets look like if you boot into another account.
2. Boot in safe mode. See what the widgets look that way. Post whether they are ok or not. Then reboot normally. If the widgets were ok when safe booted are they still ok?
Note, the dashboard preferences are ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.plist. But leave that alone for the moment.

OK, so two things: I switched accounts, and the guest account did not have this happen. More, when I swithced back, the visuals on the dashboard wsere great, and have stayed that way. So for now I'm going to assume it was a meteor shower and keep my fingers crossed.
