Apple WatchHi Jeff ...
Might be a corrupted mail preference (.plist)...
Open Keychain Acceess located in /Applications/Utilities
Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field to find the keychain associated with your Mail.
Then right or control click that keychain, then click Delete.
Now wtih Mac Mail open, go to the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Select the mail account on the left.
Type in your User Name and password under Incoming Mail Server
Click Yes when prompted. That will save that data to a new keychain for you.

Apr 18, 2012 12:13 PM in response to Carolyn Samitby mcbuffy,Hello,
It happens even if you create a new keychain. Like the other user wrote it's not a problem with Mail or your Mac it's from the mail server. It happens to me too from times to times with Yahoo.

Jul 18, 2016 6:26 PM in response to askhflaksjgby Alan Derkacs,I have the same, or a similar problem. I recently changed my email password on the providers web site. I them entered the new password in the Mail Preferences Accounts panel and said save the changes when prompted. If i restart, or closed and later re-open email, I get a message that says "enter you password for (my user name) in Internet Accounts.
I click continue and enter the new pass word in the panel (Internet Accounts in System Preferences) and hit return. I get a message that says only one Mail account can be enabled at a time and enabling the account will disable the same account name. I click Enable and it looks like the new password is saved. But later, it is not.
I keep having to enter the new password in Mail Preferences Accounts to get my mail
I tried the delete the keychain routine , but that made no difference.
OSX 10.11.5 and Mail version 9.3 on and iMac.

Jul 19, 2016 12:08 AM in response to Alan Derkacsby Cattus Thraex,In most cases, if you delete the account, and then put it again back, by repeating the steps as if you set it up from the beginning, solves the issue.

Sep 8, 2016 3:15 AM in response to iklagshamnby Cattus Thraex,Yes, it may occur and is indeed annoying. I solved such issues by deleting the account(s), and resuming settings from scratch.
