Q: Several months ago I started using a HP PSC 1610 All-In-One Printer.  How can I use the IPhoto edit process?  The HP Automatically comes up.  Also, VERY frequently the print settings change from 8 1/2 x 11 to 4 x 6.  Why?

Why does the IPhoto edit go directly to HP edit?  I much prefer the IPhoto edit and can't really get accustomed to the HP edit.  Also, why does page set-up, which is 8 1/2 x 11 in "preferences" periodically change to 4 x 6?  In some cases, like printing tickets from Ticketmaster in "adobe reader," I could not "force" it to print regular paper size.  That caused problems checking in because the ticket was too small.  Besides, I have to check page set-up before each print job.  And the print in 4 x 6 seems to be photo print and takes "forever" and often jams the paper.

I use an IBook G4 and the HP PSC 1610 All-In-One Printer.  Both were purchased in 2005, but the printer didn't get used until January 2010.  I previously had an Epson printer and NEVER had that happen.  It looks like HP wants to be "In Charge."

How about closing the printer application and unplugging the printer before opening iPhoto? Does that help?

    Rhonda:

Thanks for your suggestion.  I unplugged the printer from the computer, quit the HP Image edit, then started IPhoto.  But, when I clicked edit in IPhoto HP Image Edit popped up, and then opened.  Any other suggestions?  Also, even tho I have the 8 1/2 by 11 selected on the IBook G-4 printer preferences I still get the 4 by 6 option in many cases.  Not all, which makes it more difficult to figure out.

    Again, thanks, and God Bless!!

I've never used an HP printer. I'll ask around and see if someone else can figure this out for you.

    Check Preferences>Advanced:

    iPhoto.png

Check that the HP app hasn't replaced iPhoto in the Edit Photos dropdown selection.

Pretty annoying if it's done so without asking you during software installation.

Thanks.  HP had been entered, and IPhoto is no longer an option.  However, I entered the option "full page" and it was in IPhoto edit mode.

Again, thanks.  That fixes one problem.  Can you assist with the paper size question?  Let me know.

To be honest I'm not sure about the printing aspect - this is outside of iPhoto for Adobe reader?

Could be the size is dictated rigidly by the document or something.

I've never really got to grips with OS X printer dialogues.

    Hopefully somone else will answer.

Thanks.  I know the document didn't dictate the size of a recent Ticketmaster page, because all other people with a home printed ticket had 8 1/2 by 11 printouts.

As you said, hopefully someone else has the answer.  Thanks for your help on the IPhoto editing problem.
