Mar 25, 2012 2:03 PM in response to atyreeby alanfromnewtownards,Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

Mar 25, 2012 2:25 PM in response to atyreeby alanfromnewtownards,How many email accounts do you have on the iPad?

Mar 25, 2012 3:56 PM in response to atyreeby Coppertiger,Check your mailbox limits/folder limits. Limits reached stop the servers cleaning up and the emails remain cached.

Mar 25, 2012 3:59 PM in response to Coppertigerby Coppertiger,P.S. The program on your idevice will report unread email wherever they are. Open your email program on your desktop and check all folders including the delete and spam bins. I noticed the same behaviour a few days ago following deleting some emails without opening them. Hope this helps.

Mar 25, 2012 4:29 PM in response to atyreeby pjl123,Another place to look. If you have some threads going, look for an old e mail you may not have opened buried inside of the thread you have since responded to.

Mar 25, 2012 4:41 PM in response to pjl123by atyree,I have two accounts on my iPad. I've isolated and deleted both of them and turned them both back on to be sure that the Gmail account is question is the problem, and it is.
I've double checked all of the threads I have for any unread email, and I can't find any.
Like I said, the thing that has me scratching my head is that I have the exact same two accounts on my iPhone and my iPad, and the iPad still reads 3 unread emails, while the iPhone shows everything as read.
As for the limits, this occured a few days ago, and new emails have since come and gone, and the iPad always reflects these 3 phantom emails, while the same activity occurs on my phone, sans the 3 emails I can't identify.

Apr 10, 2012 11:20 PM in response to atyreeby atyree,It's been a few weeks now, and this problem still persists. The Gmail web app, the OS X Lion Mail app and my iPhone mail app all show that my inbox has no unread message, but my iPad still says that specific Gmail account has 3 unread messages. Has no one else had this problem?

Apr 19, 2012 10:51 AM in response to atyreeby mac68,So, I don't know if this will help you. I had the same thing happen to me after I started backing up my email to icloud.
My mail app kept showimg 1 unread message. When I hit inbox in the mail app, it shows up as comcast in the upper left corner. I tapped on that and low and behold, there is an icloud inbox too. This is where the unread message is, from icloud. I hope this helps you.

Apr 19, 2012 12:00 PM in response to atyreeby lb99,★Helpfulone day ago I resolved it! It was quite simple for me. i made smart folder with option/rule to show unread messages and " vuola" - it appears and finds my unread messages! I hope it will help you too!

Apr 19, 2012 1:00 PM in response to lb99by atyree,Hi! Could you elaborate? Do you mean that you made the smart folder in the Gmail webapp, and when you clicked to show unread, you found that you did have unread email?

Apr 22, 2012 1:07 PM in response to atyreeby shaarp,★HelpfulI just had this issue when setting up an email account on my iphone.. I tried everything that was mentioned but to no resolution. I then went into the Email Settings and switched "Mail" to OFF (Do Not Delete Account), then switched "Mail" back ON. This resolved my issue.
