I have replacement ram on the way from OWC and I am hoping that it is a RAM issue because as a college student who goes to Davis. I am hoping someone here can help me either confirm or tell me otherwise what is going on with my computer. I get panics ~every 15mins.

The formatting for panic might be better on macrumors: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1361144

Here it is for viewing on these discussions anyways:

Boot into Safe Mode and see if that fixes the panics. If it does then start by uninstalling all the third-party stuff that installed extensions. The ones in particular are indicated in your log:

    com.smarttech.iokit.SMARTBoard     9.7 (addr 0x9da000, size 0x8192) - last unloaded 392421944350

    Try uninstalling PeerGuardian.

  • 3. Re: Help me decipher this kernal panic log?
    thomas_r. Level 7 Level 7 (27,945 points)

Kernel panics are often caused by third-party software, and you have the following third-party kernel extensions installed:

    com.sophos.kext.sav     7.3.0

    com.nvidia.CUDA     1.1.0

    xxx.qnation.PeerGuardian     1.1.9

    com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard     5.7.1

    com.AmbrosiaSW.AudioSupport     3.2

The Sophos one I also have, and it hasn't caused me trouble so far.  I'm not at all familiar with the others, though.  You should try removing those, one at a time, and see if the panics go away.  (You can also hold the shift key down at startup to enter Safe Mode, which disables all third-party software like this.  If the problems don't go away, don't bother with this, as it's more likely to be hardware in that case.)

ok well I don't know if it is extensions because after the panic. I start my computer multiple times in vain because starting the computer is usually accompanied by the SOS beeps ...---...

  • 6. Re: Help me decipher this kernal panic log?
    Jaqueh Level 1 Level 1 (35 points)

ok that's actually pretty helpful. but mine does 9 beeps. do I interpret that as 3 beeps since it's 3 short then 3 long then 3 short? also my screen is black when this happens

Got me. This type of hardware issue needs other diagnostics to figure out.

it looks like it gained some stuff about the GPU

Did you ever try booting into safe mode?

  • 11. Re: Help me decipher this kernal panic log?
    Jaqueh Level 1 Level 1 (35 points)

    yeah. it panicked on startup

  • 12. Re: Help me decipher this kernal panic log?
    Kappy Level 10 Level 10 (226,775 points)

OK. Create a new user account. Log into the account with an automatic startup. Does it still panic? If it does, then you need to uninstall all that third-party gunk you have installed as I mentioned much earlier in the topic.

ok i will try that, but i have uninstalled everything save for sophos and NVIDIA CUDA because i got an update for it, but i am now uninstalling that as well. I thought that if i start my computer on safe mode and it fails to start up, like it panics in the middle of it, then that means that there is something wrong with the computer beyond the extensions, because i checked that panic log and it panicked before any extension was loaded.

at least that's what i think from what i can understand from it

None of you guys could have guessed it, i'm sure. It's completely hardware. Today i tried to move the rams around, and i noticed that the second ram stick no longer stays in place, so that is the reason why I seem to get kernel panics when i do something sudden with my computer
