Q: Event Says Missing File, Can't Remove It.

Final Cut Pro X is telling me that a file in my event needs to be relinked.  Basically it's a .psd file that i have since removed from the event.  honestly i was working so fast I dont know if i made a careless mistake but for some reason FCPX seems to think I still need to relink that file.  But the file isn't even in the event.  I tried to locate it and just delete it so FCPX would realize I don't have that file anymore.  I even tried relinking another .PSD file with the same name to just overwrite whatever it was and then just delete it but it keeps saying that the PSD File i'm trying to replace it with doesn't have the same framerate or filesize or something so it isn't compatible.  which doesn't make sense because I literally made a cloned copy of the PSD file that I had deleted.

I even browsed through the actual  event folders on the drive just to see if I could find where FCPX was getting confused but couldn't find the psd file it thinks it's missing.

can anyone help me with this absurd prediciment?

Have you tried right-clicking (or control-clicking) on it and "move to trash?"

There actually isn't even a file to right click. There isn't a clip or anything in the ever with thy file name so terr isn't anything for me to delete. If I delete the event and start a new one will that screw up my current projects usin that event?

I'm new to FCP X myself...deleting the event sounds like it could cause problems....

Have you checked the Timeline index? (Window: timeline index) In case it's showing up there, maybe you could delete it?

I know what is happening here as it happened to me.

You might think that your original file is not in the project any longer, as I'm betting you have the little drop down menu just above the clip window set to 'hide rejected'.

Simply set this to 'all clips', and you'll then see that PSD in the clips window, represented by a red thumbnail.

Simly right click it and delete it.

    Problem solved.

I have had problems with FCPX ever since I bought it and have discussed some of the issues in these forums.  I now have 10.0.5 and it seems to be better but have found in editting my latest project that each time I quit FCP, all my work is lost: I either get an empty grey canvas like I would if using it for the first time, or I get an accurate Events list but no timeline or I get the red "Missing File" alert in the timeline with no Event listing.  The only way I found around this was to leave the computer permanently on and FCP loaded for the duration of my editing.  All the files are in the Finder, but if I try to import them, although they are FCP files, the program will not open them (it will reimport event lists but not projects).  Only once in many quit and reopen episodes did it correctly load everthing I had worked on, but I have found today (now the project is complet but not deleted) that it is still in its bad habits.

Such a simple solution, but the one I have been struggling with for days
