It's possible that Apple is making refinements to the "matching" process, and therefore needs iTunes to "re-do" something it has already done (related to iTunes Match).

Are you saying iTunes Match is actually turned OFF every time you start iTunes?

    Hi Kenichi

Yes itunes match is turned off every time I start itunes - I have just started itunes up and the only way I can get itunes match to work is to go to Store - Turn on itunes match - then it wants me to add this computer which is already added - the problem with doing this is that it will then download itunes match from the cloud and put on an older version of my Music and Playlists when what I want it to do is Upload my latest Music and playlists to the cloud.

I don't seem to be able to tell itunes match to either upload or download which to me seems the most basic requirement.

Since you are a paying customer of the service, you should contact the official iTunes Support Team through one of the methods on this web page

    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

(or the equivalent page for your country)

I don't seem to be able to tell itunes match to either upload or download

Uploads are automatically done for any new song you add to your iTunes library that does NOT match a song in the iTunes Store catalog.  So you don't tell iTunes to upload anything.  A new song that matches is not uploaded because it are already in iCloud, stored collectively for everyone that has that song.  Downloads are done by clicking on the iCloud icon next to the song name in iTunes.  That icon will be there ONLY for a song that is stored iCloud, but is not stored locally on the computer you are using.  You can play the song by streaming it directly from iCloud, or by downloading it (so there is a local copy) and then playing it.

    Hi Kenichi

    Thanks for your reply!

I understand how itunes match works it's just that I can't get it to work how it's supposed to.

The fact that it keeps asking me to sign up my computer to itunes match when it already is signed up means there is a technical or software issue.

I will take your advice and contact technical support.

    Many thanks!

I contacted support and we seem to have solved it!

The problem is with the i-tunes cache it holds information which is out of date and when the computer restarts or starts up afresh itunes uses the cache to open up files quickly.

    Problem resolved as follows:-

If itunes match is not working use top bar > store > turn itunes match on > add this computer

wait while itunes adds match to the computer - if its already been added once it will only take a few minutes - (if registering match for the first time it will take considerably longer depending how many songs you have - I have 11,600 songs and it took 6 hours the first time)

then top bar > itunes > preferences > advanced > reset cache > ok

quit itunes - restart itunes - match should still be there

then quit itunes - restart computer - start itunes - match should still be there

    I works just fine now!

It would seem that when installing itunes match the software should clear the itunes cache then this problem would not occur?

    Hope this helps others!

    Thank you Kenichi!

One problem I have found after clearing the cache - neither of my apple tv's were connected to itunes - I had to start them up all over again entering the 5 digit key and then upload songs & photos!

They are old type apple tv's with the hard drive but I still love them!
