I have had individual accounts for each of my children and myself. Yesterday I tried to change the password to my account (I told my oldest my password a few weeks ago and he's been using my account instead of his lately). I went to System Preferences, then to Accounts. I clicked on the little lock on the lower left and typed in my old password. The lock unlocked. Then I clicked on Change Password. I typed in my old password, then my new password twice. It told me that the old password (which I had just used to unlock the lock!) was no good! I tried several other possible passwords in case they are different passwords and nothing is working. Is it possible that older son messed around with my account? Yes, I would not put it past him. But what do I do, to change the password if it's telling me I don't know the old password!!!! Help! And I noticed this morning that my account is no longer password-protected. I just click on my name and it automatically opens. I don't know if this is because I tried unsuccessfully to change the password or because son has been messing around with that too. Ugh. Please help. Thank you.

You didn't say which operating system you are using, so ...

If OS X 10.6 or earlier, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274

    If 10.7, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4798

On the 10.6 Apple note posted above, did you undo the twistie that says "Resetting the original account password"?  Did you get out your original OS X gray-faced disk and boot to it it change the password?
