HT1338 No sound from internal speakers?

All of a sudden i have no sound from my internal speakers.When i plug in my headphones the sound is great and works well. I have also noticed after i remove the headphones i see a red light where the headphones plug into? I have tried going through the process via system prefrencesas well as shutting down but still have no sound. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem. Thanking anyone in advance.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Core i7
