Q: iTunes Match explicit/clean music switch

Hey everyone,

First I guess that I should point out that I am using the current version of iTunes and iPhone software. Here's my problem.

I bought Drake's Take Care album (explicit and hardcopy) a few weeks ago and imported it into my iTunes library. In the computer that I imported it on, it plays the correct versions of the songs, but when I go to play the album on my iPhone 4s, it plays the clean versions. So somehow, iTunes Match put the clean version in the cloud, instead of matching it with the explicit.

Another oddity I found was with Mac Miller's Blue Slide Park (also explicit and hardcopy) that I imported into iTunes. When I play this album on my home computer it plays fine but once I play them on my iPhone, it plays completely different songs, except for a couple that play correctly. iTunes Match apparently did not match these songs correctly either.

As a side note, I imported Coldplay's new album into my iTunes library as well, and it matched correctly in iTunes Match.

I have tried turning on and off iTunes Match on my iPhone as the Apple Support lady said, but this did not solve the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I've not noticed if any other music is incorrectly matched in my library or just these two albums.

They Do. How do I know? Because im a Computer Engineer and this Issue does have Solutions. Many of which arent that difficult:

    Solution/ MultiSolution Fix:

    1. Change Itunes / Itunes Match to matching to Explicit Versions BY Default. If any parents are concerned about this they can change the default matching to Clean.

    2. For everyone who already has Clean Versions of Songs in iTunes, Offer a Menu Option in Itunes to Convert all Clean songs to Explicit (provided an Explicit Version exists).

    3. For Songs which were Explicit previously and are now Clean but Itunes DOES NOT have the Explicit Version--> Apple can simply display a dialog that displays ANY songs that iTunes matches to CLEAN to the user, For example, during the iTunes Match process considering all your music by default will be matching to the explicit version as per STEP 1, apple will just show "The following list of XX songs only have clean versions. Do you still want to match these songs!". They will show this for all songs that only match to clean.

    4. Finally any songs already matched to clean that dont have Explicit Versions in iTunes, but the user wants back as Explicit. All apple needs to do is give a menu option to identify ALL (AAC) Clean songs in your computer. With this list the user will just proceed to "reacquire" the original explicit versions, one by one by their own means.

---Ladies and Gentlement that is the solution and as always... ALWAYS back up your music before modifying it!

I had a similar problem with The Best of 2Pac album. Some of the music is explicit and some is clearly edited. On my mac it plays unedited but on my phone some of the tracks are unedited and some are cleaned up versions of songs. I am at a loss as to why this happens.

Is there any update to this issue. All the online articles point to Feb 2nd when Apple started looking at the issue. You would think some sort of response would have come by now.

I am still gettting the generic "We are aware of the issue and working on a fix" email response.

Yep, the long delay without an update is very annoying. We're paying for this service.

I tried the ITUNESADVISORY tag "fix" and it only worked on 1 of the albums I've encountered it on.

My auto-renew is already turned off and anything I've matched is already backed up locally.  I haven't heard anything on this issue in months other than "it's a known issue".    I've honestly given up.

Cee Lo Green's "**** You" just really doesn't have the same effect. This is a bummer.

I edited the songs albums name and put (explicit) on the end. This pulled down the correct track from then on.

Yea that may work but who want to do that for 15,000 song. I downloaded a app called melodies and synced my music onto google music. It works a million times better and faster than iTunes match. And I'm a apple fanatic.

I am having this issue as well on many songs and I sent an email to Apple Support and this is exactly what I was sent:

    "This could be related

to your parental controls, I would make sure that "restrict explicit content" is

unchecked. I also found a helpful discussion that I would like you to look over.

    Please check this out:

    iTunes Match explicit/clean music switch:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3645896?start=150&tstart=0  "

which brought me here to this discussion board.

I dont have anything checked under my itunes parental settings, so even Apple reps are clueless on how to fix this.

    C'mon Apple, What gives?

I have a case number from January and this is still unresolved.       The L2 I spoke with told me at the time that this was a known issue.  Too bad they aren't telling their L1 reps this.

I called the apple support center today and the rep (L1) was clueless about the issue. After I requested to talk to someone else, they were able to "direct me here"

You will think that after a few months since someone in this forum

had a breakthrough with this problem, they could have fix this issue by now.....

I can't believe apple is still making money in a half working product.... at this rate they should gives us back half of our money....

    My 2 cents..

    Hi guys,

I have the same problem of Cleaning Explicit songs.... but with iTunes Store songs...

I bought the "Jay-Z / Linkin Park" EXPLICIT album on iTunes Store several years ago. Last year, i've choosen to use Match with my iPhone. Since that day, 50% of the album songs have turned CLEANED. To sum up : on my Mac, the 6 songs are Explicit but on my phone, only 3. What is the matter with this album ??

    Thank you for your answer.

    M.

I've had this problem with album download cards I get with records converting to clean versions when iTunes Match gets hold of them.  The downloaded files are high-quality explicit versions.  Has there been any update on this being resolved?  The main example I have is Skelethon by Aesop Rock.  I know there are others, but haven't gone back to figure out exactly what has been edited by Match.
