Received a MIDI e-mail attachmenet via Mac Mail.

Can't do anything with it. Like move it to the desktop, or import using variousl programs. No luck.

So, can I bring a MIDI song into G/B? If so, how?

I can, and often do, bring MIDI songs into G/B via Band-in-a-Box. When that happens, it comes in as separate MIDI tracks.

Thinking that if I could get that MIDI e-mail attachment into iTunes, that might work. Maybe via CD. But wouldn't it then become analog? No more digital.

By the way, that MIDI e-mail attachment looks like an audio sound bar. I can play it within the e-mail but can't remove it from the e-mail. Is there a way to do that?

Your thoughts?

Are you using GarageBand on a Mac or on an iPad?

Assuming you are using a Mac with GarageBand '11 on MacOS 10.6.8 or 10.7.3:

GarageBand can play many kinds of midi, but not all - you just will have to try. The same goes for iTunes. If you import midi to iTunes, then iTunes will play it, and keep it midi, but it will not show up when searching for the "kind is music". You will find the song at the top of the "recently added" playlist.

To open a midi sent by Mail in GarageBand, press the "Save" drop-down menu button in the Attachment section of the Mail Window. Save the midi-attachment to the Desktop. Then try to import it to a GarageBand Project by dragging the midi file to an empty Software Instrument track.

    Good Luck

    Thanks, Leonie

    Worked like a charm.

Using an iMac, 3.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 TB Capacity, 8 GB RAM, running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), Discussion Forums used to provide all that info at the bottom of posts. Guess they don't anymore.

By the way, using G/B '09.

    Thanks again
