I've had my Mac for a little more than 2years and just got this iPad2.  I love it but there are a lot of things to learn.  I have no trouble getting my gmail (Comcast email is a bit trickier) and reading it, but can't begin to figure out how to delete one.  I'm sure it is something simple, and will feel really dumb when I find out how to,do,this.  I can do it when I'm on my Mac, if I have to, but there must be a way, isn't there?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

There should be a trash can icon and select that and it will delete it.

Just swipe to the left or right on the email in the InBox and tap the Delete button that appears.

I have an archive button, but that really isn't what I wanted.  And no trash icon showing up.

You can change that. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4207

If you go to Settings/Mail, Contacts... and enter your Gmail account configuration, you should find a setting that allows you to choose to delete or to archive mail. Changing that setting should give you a  trash can icon in the Mail app.

That's what the support article I linked to tells how to do.

OK, but what is your point, that we have duplicated useful information to the OP? If you check the time stamps on our comments we were likely working on the issue simultaneously, you finding the Knowledge Base article in your link, while I was testing my solution directly on my iPad.
