A screen comes up and tells me I have missing files (but they are from a long ago project, so I don't care about them) but when I try to close that window and carry on, iDVD freezes and I have to force quit. Any ideas?

Thanks so much

    Hi

    Which version of iMovie do You use ?

    Can it be so that Plug-ins plays a trick - I use iMovie HD6 and had to take away some of them as they locked my iMovie.

    IDVD 5  I should also mention that when I select iDVD icon it sounds like the power boosts too. I can get it to come up but as soon as I click on something/anything the beach ball starts spinning. ARRGH! Then I have to force quit to get it to stop.

    Very aggravating to say the least!

    Thanks

    Try this basic troubleshooting fix :

    1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your

         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.

    2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your

         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.

    Click to view full size

    3 - launch IDVD and try again.

    Thanks OT, it gives me something to hope for anyway. I will try it when I get home tonight. I appreciate your time! I will let you know how it works out.

    Have an awesome day!

    Hi OT,

    I just wanted to send you a HUGE thank you!! That did the trick, it seems to be working fine again. Is that something that needs to be done periodically? Not even sure what it is that you had me do, I am just so grateful that it is working again.

    Thank you so much

    No.  It's just a basic troulbeshooting technique.  The preference file can get damaged any number of ways, like a brief power outage while using iDVD,  so should be rebuild if necessary.

    I'm having the same problem, but I don't seem to have either of those files com.apple.iDVD.plist  Cache.db.

    Should I have these files?

    You must be looking in the wrong Library folder.  If you're running Lion  Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

    Then look for the Preference folder as displayed in the screenshot above.

    I tried Old Toad's advice, I got rid of the cache and the item in preferences, and the application still freezes whenever I try to import or drag a film. Help?
