LaCie (although they have had problems with power supplies), Iomega, and Seagate seem to be the most popular; I've got a LaCie (a "Rugged" portable) and a 4 or 5 year old Seagate, in addition to the OWC I mentioned earlier.

The problem is, one model may be great or terrible, but by the time enough have been sold and used for a couple of years, it's discontinued and replaced by the latest and greatest.

So, check reviews, both of the drive and, if you're going to buy from a 3rd party, the 3rd party's return policies and reputation.

Cool.   Also, there may be some other good brands, popular mostly in Europe, that we don't hear much about in the U.S.

Can connect Time Capsule in a USB port ?

Yes, you can connect a USB drive to a Time Capsule.  But that port is under-powered -- if the drive doesn't have it's own power supply, you'll need a powered USB hub.  Sometimes, hubs are also needed for some large (over 1 TB) self-powered drives, too.

See Uses for the USB port of Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express.

    Jesus, thanks Pondini!

After trying to copy backupdb to a new external drive for days without luck, and after searching hundreds of different forums, I stumbled on your tip to move ‘backupdb’ to the top level of the drive berfore copying it. That worked like a charm! THANKS for saving my day!
