I too have "done everything else" - and it worked for a while and then came back.  Very annoying BTW.

Someone suggested that in Outlook I go to Advanced - Security, and choose None Selected from the drop down menu under Digital Signing - Certificate.

So far it has worked for me.  Interestingly I only have had the authentication issue with Outlook.  Apple Mail has been the go-to savior through all this while Outlook has been freaking out with iCloud.

I have noticed one other thing....if I am running Outlook for the same email account on other computers in the house (I have 3), I get the problem more often.  This is particularly evident if one of them has the screen up that says unable to authenticate and I haven't clicked Cancel.  So far though...the Certificate thing has smoothed everything out....for now anyway....

Changing my password from the original one I had with mobileme (7 characters) to the new requirements for iCloud fixed the problem for me.

Have done all that has been suggested in this forum. It works for a day or two then it is right back to asking for password. Just a few minutes ago after working fine it is back to asking for password for my Mac email account. Have other email accounts I use within Apple Mail and have no problems. It is just with the Apple (iCloud) account. Also when the problem starts with asking for password the only way to close Mac Mail is to use Force Quit. The is a BUG in this Mac Mail with this iCloud. Maybe this new OS X Lion coming soon will fix this issue.

It seems to be a server issue on Apple's end, I manage servers for a living and this seems to be some server side processing issues.  Sometimes the service is up, sometimes its down, its just a matter of time before Apple resolves this issue, its not like out of the thousands of employees at Apple are not having this same issue with their iCloud accounts.

This issue is apparent on my MacBook Pro running 10.7.3, my iPhone 4S, and my iPad 3.  It's not device specific which is why its a server side issue.

I have been following this thread and many others for sometime and unlike other issues, this one curiously has not been visited by or commented on by an Apple moderator.  How do you get to THOSE guys.  Shouldn't they be jumping in with "yeah...we know...we're working on it....here are some official work arounds for you until we get this sorted out".  I agree with Doc...they HAVE to know this is a nightmare for alot of users...including themselves.  It has been going on long enough now for them to at least particpate in the discussions.  Anyone know how to get a moderators attention...and get some kind of offical status from them...?

You really need to read the forum Terms of Use you agreed to when you joined. This is strictly a user-to-user tech support site and Apple does NOT participate in any way or even read these posts.

Also, if you had actually read the entire thread, you would know that it covers a variety of different issues, some user related. It started out with a problem with the Apple severs and the conversion from MobileMe to iCloud when iCloud first opened. This was fixed in a few days for 99.99+% of users. Since then, the issues have been different and most posters manged to fix the problem themselves.

Sorry about not curling up with the T&C's Modular.  My bad.  I do not agree with your position that this is 99% fixed by any means.  Yes this goes back 9 pages...but there are plenty of recent posts of people still having issues with it...well beyond this string.  I still think Apple should recognize this as an ongoing problem that is far from user error or unrelated to the iCloud transition.  These are not intuitive fixes either by any means.   NONE of this was happening before I upgraded to Lion and iCloud.   I was asking how to get Apples attention.  As it is clearly not here....perhaps you can tell me where....which was the original intention of my post.

I agree this is a bug. It seems to affect those who had dot Mac IDs which became mobile me. Then I discontinued my mobile me account. A year or two later, along comes Lion and iCloud. I use my dot Mac ID (@mac.com) when asked and that's when the problems begin. Apple should look at dot Mac / mobile me users whose accounts were suspended at the time of iCloud. I think the problem lies there. I've tried all the remedies and nothing fixes it permanently.

Not exactly sure what worked but I finally got rid of the "asking for email address" (not password) problem (which may be a different problem then what others are describing but deleting the icloud account in "mail and contacts" of "system preferences" and clicking the iCloud long column at the top and adding in a new iCloud account by clicking on the "+" button and using one of my older email addresses in the account setup seemed to work.

Maybe someone should clear up the different Apple ID's because it seems a little confusing when there is one for iTunes and one for other things. Seems like there should just be one.

Multiple types of Username's, passwords, email addresses and Apple ID's can be a little confusing.

Krescendo / Karl's suggestion worked. Switched to password auth instead of Apple Token.

.Mac to @me.com has nothing to do with it. I used my itunes ID, and made that my brand new iCloud account, and I'm still having the problem.

This didn't work for me either, and as a matter of fact seems to have made it worse.

Apple does read these threads, and has been known to delete ones it doesn't like.

It does seem like it could be server side, as I have the issue on both Macs, though I can't remember ever seeing it on my iPhone or iPad.

Something to make this even more interesting... I have two iCloud accounts. One I made fresh and the other which was a converted .Mac -> MobileMe -> iCloud account. The brand new iCloud account is in system preferences, and populates to Mail that way. It is always asking for the password. The converted account was entered into mail by itself, and never ever has a problem. I'm going to try entering the Fresh account through Mail as opposed to System Preferences and get back to you all.
