I'm experiencing the same thing. It started about two weeks ago. All of a sudden, my phone stopped pairing with my Subaru. I took my car in and they were able to connect to other devices. My phone is no longer discoverable. I have a rental Ford Focus this week and it won't connect either. It is definitel the phone. What happened?

The bluetooth on the iphone 4s is appalling. In the time since my last posting I have spent a bit of time with my colleague who is driven mad by his iphone 4s poor bluetooth connectivity. We travel around and use a lot of rental cars. He is consistently having trouble pairing with bluetooth. I ended up purchasing an android phone being aware of the issues he was having. Every time he cannot pair his phone I have managed to pair mine without any problems and without having to shut down other software on the phone. It really should be that simple.

A shame as the iphone is a well finished piece of kit,

After I successfully link iPhone with my Toyota Prius Bluetooth system, now I am able to link with my Jabra BT3030, but it take quite a while for my iPhone 4s to find it.  As for my Toyata Prius link, there has been no problem so far after a week.

Did you recently upgrade to a new IOS version?  If so, a reset of the network cycling of the Bluetooth may help.

I had paired my iPhone 4S with my Motorola T325 with no trouble.  After upgrading to IOS 5.1, it was necessary to pair it again.  It was slow to connect the first time, but it did pair after recycling the Bluetooth off and on.  It seems like updating the IOS leave Bluetooth in an indeterminate condition.

I have a 2012 Honda and a 2007 acura.  My phone works fine in the Acura but intermittently works in the Honda.  It sees the phone, I make a call and then in the middle of the call, the phone disappears - the car shows not phone connected, the call is not disconnected so the person keeps talking, a few seconds later, the care finds the phone again and the call resumes.  Its maddening.  I have had the phone repleaced,  I have the sameproblem.  I upgraded the software.  I have the same problem.  I turned off Siri.  I have the same problem.

THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.  I need to be able to drive my car and talk on the phone.  APPLE SHOULD MAKE THIS A PRIORITY.  THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT.  THIS PHONE IS NOT FIT FOR USE AS A PHONE FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS TO TALK ON THE PHONE AND DRIVE.

No one "needs" to talk on the phone while driving. Doing so, even with a hands free device is dangerous. And please stop shouting.

The bluetooth problem continues. I took my phone into the Genius bar. They told me the bluetooth firmware was corrupt and I would need to restore the phone and set it up as a new iphone (my backup was also corrupt). I spent an hour restoring and putting my content back on the phone and the bluetooth still does not work. I'm going back to the Genius bar tonight to see what else it could be. BTW there was another customer with the same problem at the store when i was there last night. This is a common problem and there doesn't seem to be a good solution yet.

i do not consider sitting on the highway in traffic for 45 minutes "driving" as I'm not really moving.

The solution, ditch the iphone, get an Android. It just works.

You may not consider it "driving". You may also not consider sitting in your car in your driveway with the keys in the ignition listening to the radio with the engine not running "driving", FYI, the police DO consider it "driving". You are in control of the vehicle. Try doing the latter drunk some time... Just hope you don't get caught. They will throw you in jail.

I take back all that I have said about the poor bluetooth performance on iphone !! Apple is just looking after all of us and has purposfully designed in the abysmal bluetooth performance into the iphone to ensure our safety on the roads, so you cannot talk on bluetooth device. Yeah I get it now.

Well whaddya know... after reading a few posts, I actually pulled out the instructions that came with my Jawbone headset and they reminded me that I had to hold both buttons for 2 seconds the first time I paired with my 3gs.

Did that and guess what? It paired with my 4 right away.

Guess those instructions are good for something after all.
