Could not drop a file on to Time Machine.
Yes, I can view Time Capsule Disk under Airport Utilities.

Also, if you are able to connect an external hard drive to the USB port of your Time Capsule, let's see if your Mac does recognize it.
After that, you might wanna try a reset of the Time Capsule too. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
When was it purchased? Still under warranty?
Let me know,

Now you are advising a technically challenged woman! I notice that the Airport icon at the top of the screen is greyed out. When I open Airport Utilities now, all I get is Other Airport Base Stations, a green dot stating 'Internet' & at the bottom of the screen 'No configured Airport base stations have been found. Airport Utility will continue searching'. Not sure what all this means. I did not see 'backup delayed' anywhere this time. I have tried connecting another hard drive to the USB port & the computer recognises a new Backup Device. I should add that I am travelling around Australia by caravan & am in a remote area at the moment, so access to the internet is at the whim of Telstra. We are moving to a town tomorrow, so access may be better.

If there is any confusion, the easiest way remains to reset your Time Capsule and start from scratch. The beautiful side of that, is that it is a very short process.
Your data will NOT be erased.

Hi again, hope you have a wonderful time traveling around australia.
I think you should try to give your Time Capsule a brand new start. The beautiful side of it, is that it is not a long process. If your data is still on your hard drive, it won't get deleted.
"If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
- Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
- Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
- Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule."

Then, follow the instructions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1178
Good luck !
