Hi, I recently bought my macbook (OS X 10.7.3 / i7) as well as final cut pro x (currently 10.0.1 - can't update or my project file ive worked so long on would be worthless), and it's literally driving me insane. I have been trying to complete a project for days now and upload to youtube, but everytime i export something gets messed up. I must have tried atleast 15 times, each with different settings after following tutorial guidelines. I've eliminated the flashing first frame by deleting all previous renders, changed the audio setting to stereo, and have tried multiple video settings, including: H.264, Apple ProRes 4444 / 422 / 422 HQ (all these have way too big of an output for a 5 min video - around 3.2GB), and direct upload to youtube (which brings shame and having to delete). I have also tried exporting with compressor 4 settings which doesn't seem to help anything. The persisting problems are single or multiple depending on the settings - random frames glitch and repeat throughout the video, or sometimes everything will be fine until after half when a frame will trip balls and repeats quickly (like flashing) for the rest of the video, etc. I really need to solve this horrible issue - i can't believe apple would release a product that can't even carry out the most elementary tasks of its purpose. I find myself to be quite capable of adapting to new technology, and if this is giving me so many unsolvable problems i feel sorry for the noobs who try and use this nightmare of a program. I am curious, since the export involves quicktime, if it is the quicktime software that is causing the issue (i have 10.1 i believe). Any response / help / you've had the same problem and fixed it / feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

So why would your project be worthless if you did update to 10.0.4?

    I suggest updating to 10.0.4 it's only a 5 minute clip.

See if this helps. Go to share>Export Media>Current Settings. Test the movie in Quicktime Player. If it plays correctly, use that exported movie as your source file and import that into Compressor. Either use one of the Video Sharing presets and manually upload the output file to You Tube, or from the Template window choose YouTube and have the upload take place as a job action.

And even though most people would not recommend updating software in the middle of a project, it's also not true that your ealier project would be worthless if you did.

    Good luck.

You can update to FCP X 10.0.4 and still use your existing projects.

When you first launch the updated FCP X it will ask you whether you want your existing projects updated as well so you can continue working on them.

Your exporting problems are almost certainly nothing to do with the version you are using but are more likely to be caused by your method of using FCP X.

If you can give a detailed account of your workflow from shooting to exporting we might be able to spot what you are doing wrong.

The only sure way in FCPX to export is as Russ H suggests, Go to share>Export Media>Current Settings. If that doesn't work then... it could be the way you imported, what codec(s) did you start off with? It could be system conflicts. system conlicts and user settings seem to be causing a few people problems in FCPX.  AVid and Adobe have issues like yours once in a while.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess I misread some forums, and with the sketchiness I've experienced with this program I didn't want to risk losing my work in an irreversable update - I'll do that now. I looked into the files and they're .avi (from my friends camera not my typical one) but they seem to run fine. Also I did export once with current settings and forgot to mention that yes it did succeed without glitching.. apparently.. but it was 3.2GB for a 5 min video & 2 hour movies are usually under 1GB.. Not youtube worthy. I have also tried taking that video and importing it into compressor but as i recall something glitched, though I can try again.

You have almost certainly exported as ProRes 422 instead of H.264 but there are no doubt other problems that have occured along the way.

Even at the very highest HD quality a 5 minute H.264 video would only be around 100MB.

Just export and select H.264 instead of Current Settings, which may well be ProRes 422.

I have this very same problem every single time I try to export a movie. There is certain random frame that glitch and repeat throghout the video. Even if I delete that clip from the proyect the problem persist.

I'm getting desperate cause it's a proyect I have to send to the customer as soon as possible.

I've tried to export it with currents settings, as a H.262, as ProRes...don't know what to do next. Any idea?

    Thanks!

I ended up exporting under 'current settings' (no glitch but 3.2 GB for a 5 min video) then ran it through Compressor 4 after (using the settings of a youtube tutorial) and it came out to be an acceptable 400-500MB or less, cant remember exactly

oh and the frame glitch means you have to delete your previous render files.
