I'd like to be able to use a different icon for texting on Messages than the one that is my image in Address Book. I'd like to be able to set a different icon for my buddies than the images attached to their Address Book cards.

    Hi,

Click on your Own current pic.

There should be an Edit option.

This will allow you to chose any pic on your computer and crop it to the size or portion you want and Set it as the Pic.

This can be done at least 16 times and the App will keep a history of the 16 most recent pics.

    For your Buddies, highlight one.

The use the CMD + i keys together

In the Address Card bit you can drag  a new pic to the Pic space and it should stick.

(I have just tried this in Messages and it shows in the Info Card spot but is not changing in the Buddy list).

    This used to work.

    It may work for you.

    I will test mine further.

    EDIT

(I am finding it is changing the Address Book Pic but not the Mesage Info card)

    HI,

Quitting Messages and restarting allows me to change the Pic to the one the Address Card and now the Address Book shows.

I seem to have temporarily lost the ability to edit my Address Book locally.

However the Pic is not showing on the iCloud version.

Hi, Ralph! My major goal here is to change a buddy's pic in Messages beta *without* changing his pic in my address book. When I edit his pic in Messages, it changes his pic in Address Book. This is not what I want. I have quit Messages beta and restarted it. I have quit Address Book and restarted it.I have rebooted my computer. The problem persists.

I'm having the same problem with my own card in Address Book. When I changed my pic in Messages, it automatically changed my pic in Address Book.

    Thanks for responding.

    Hi Catherine,

I was aware of what you had asked for.

I was starting with my memories of what used to work in iChat.

Excuse the width of this pic  But in the "Recents" section I chose the Union Flag and changed it to that instead of my regular Sig pic.

    Buddy pic and Address Book
    Uploaded with Skitch!

I have put up the Address Book along side to show that the Address Book does not change.

I can do similar with a Buddy pic (although what I have now was not that easy and has included a shut down of the computer)

    Buddy Lists and Pics
    Uploaded with Skitch!

To restate what I did yesterday.

I highlighted the PC at home Buddy in the Main list  (the one in the "background")

I brought up the Info Card (CDM + i together)

I dragged a Pic to the Buddy's pic in the card and it change there to the wedding pic.

It did not change in the Buddy list so I looked in the  Address Book

    It had changed there.

As a test I then quit Messages and when I reopened it the pic was the one from the Address Book.

Today I have then reset the Sig pic (all Buddy List get the same Buddy Pic at the moment)

Therefore Messages is Sending a different pic than the Address Book and it is showing that rather than the Address Book card pic.

I do realize that I may be getting different results to you as I seem to have lost the ability to edit the Address Book directly.

The Pic changed via iChat but I cannot change it back.

On another Note, iChat used to be able to set the Buddy Pics for each Buddy List separately and I don't seem to have that option either.

Hi, Ralph! Thanks again for bearing with me!

When you mentioned that you "highlighed the PC at home Buddy", I didn't understand what you meant. I also didn't understand "(CDM + i together)".

With regard to the flukiness of losing the ability to edit either the Address Book or Messages pics...I'm having the same issue. However, after multiple reboots, I now seem to be able to edit pics the way I had wanted, with one pic for a buddy's Address Book card, and a different pic for the Messages buddy profile.

One buddy I was having this problem with had the "always use this picture" checkbox checked...unchecking it fixed the problem (oops). The other buddies I was having this problem with simply required the multiple reboots.

I guess this is why it's a beta! I hope you've been able to reacquire the ability to edit Address Book.

Thanks for all of your help.

    Catherine

    HI,

Thanks for the Points  Solved tick

The entry in my pic in the Address Book is for Me at Home (PC) Johns

This is also the Name that appears as the  Buddy in the Buddy list that is behind the address Book and the Lower and in front Buddy list. (it is actually and AIM name that I once used in Trillian on a PC but now use for other tests)

The Keyboard  has the three modifier keys of Control (CTRL), ALT and CMD (Command)

At one time the CMD key used to come with the Apple Logo on it (Apple Key) and/or the "point of Interest" icon and people used to write  "Apple/CMD key + i key together ( or ⌘ + i)"

    Pic just to be clear.

    British Keyboard
    Uploaded with Skitch!

I am still working (well, now and then) on the Address Book.
