I'm using a Kingston SSD Now V200 SATA 3 (6GB) drive in my Late 2011 model with NO difficulties. It runs great.
The late and early 2011 models are slightly different but not that much that it would matter running a SATA3 drive in it. Is this 510 series drive in the Main drive bay or a optibay caddy?
Never used the 510 series but I do have 2 320 series Intel SSDs. They are in PCs.

Can you confirm that in your configuration the Negotiated Link Speed in System Information>Serial-ATA is 6 Gigabit?
I was using the 510 in the main bay. It ran fine for 6 weeks, then started to lock up with the colored wheel and basically never recovered. Reformatting the 510 in another system didn't help - the 510 in my MBP would simply lock up the machine.
Since a lot of people see SATA 3 SSDs fail under OSX but work fine with Windows under bootcamp I'm hoping there's a fix for OSX that would allow me to use a SATA 3 SSD at some point...
Thanks for the reply.

Yes it was 6GBs. I just changed it out as I needed more space on my main drive. I have 2 drives installed Main and Optical bay.
Have you enabled TRIM support?
You really should.
What version of Lion are you running, 10.7.2 or the .3 version.
Check with Intel and do a google search of the 510 series. There was a bad batch and or a bad firmware.
If you are running Win 7 get the Intel SSD Toolbox and make sure it has the latest firmware on it. You can only do that from Windows.
Windows is running fine because it automatically enables TRIM support on that partition.

Yes, I have TRIM support enabled. But I had TRIM enabled when the 510 went bad on me, too.
I am now running OSX 10.7.3.

Curious I am in the process of installing a third party ssd and wondering... do I need to look into TRIM?
