Q: Time Capsule "Server Connection Interrupted"

For the last 2 months I get this Pop Up every Couple of Hours on my iMac. I have a Time Capsule & my iTunes Library is on that Network Hard Drive.

"Server Connections Interrupted" and shows the Hard Drive in my Time Capsule (iTunes).

 

I am running latest Version of Lion.

 

I am connected from iMac Ethernet to Time Capsule.

I have the Time Capsule Drive Set to Login when my Mac Starts Up.

But here's the funny part. My iTunes Music will be Playing perfectly when this Pops Up. No skips, Stutters. Nothing. So it does not interfere with anything working.

I would like to Post the Error but I forgot how! Smile

iMac 27" 3.06 GHz. ATI 4670 4GB 1TB, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

    The same problem appeared for me when I updated to 7.6.1 firmware. I have 2 TC base stations and it only affected 1. I uploaded the 7.6 back to the airport with the problem and my problem hasn't appeared since.

    Before & After Update, The error messages still pops up from time time. In my case, Less after performing the update. When I posted this, I had not performed the 7.6.1 Update. I was still on 7.6

    I revereted from 7.6.1 to 7.5.2 and I'm still having problems connecting (see screen capture below)! Any other suggestions?

    This is my Post and I'm still havininng trouble. It use to work fine in Snow Leopard. Has this started in Lion for the rest of you?

    I have the Latest Update. But Airport Utility. Looks exactly the same as the old Airport Utility Screen. Shouldn't I be seeing that new Airport Utility Screen which I believe is all Grey?

    It's Dino again. Different Apple ID. :-)

    I'm thinking I have the old version of Airport Utility Installed.

    Mine says 7. something on my iMac at home.

    Just looked at AU on my MBP & the Version is: 6.0 (600.92)

    Is this the Newest Version. Thanks in advance!

    Sort of. AirPort Utility 6.0 and 5.6 were introduced at the same time.

     

    If you don't have 5.6, you can download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion if you prefer the "old" look and more features.

     

    You can keep both 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac.

    Well since I'm having issues, I'll go with the 6.0. If that doesn't help I'll try the 5.6.

    Will try it tonight & report back.

    So what version is the 7. One?  I thought the higher the number, the newer the version. I guess the decimal points are what I should have looked at. So the 7. version is the older of the 3 mentioned, correct? Thanks again.

    My Time Capsule (4th Generation) is no longer creating that 'pop up' disconnect message.

    In fact, I have not seen a disconnection [or log of disconnect reconnect] message now for a week or so.

    It just seemed to have faded away, no smarts from me...

     

    In the mean time, I have shut down and restarted my iMac several times [for other reasons]...

     

    Although the 'nuisance' has gone, I am going to try to prompt it to return, by restarting the Time Capsule.

     

    Incidentally, there appears to be some confusion in this discussion...

    a) Version 7.6.1 is the Time Capsule [and AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express]

        latest firmware.  That is the one you should be using.

    b) The AirPort Utility had an upgrade to Version 6.0 recently, with nice looking Graphics,

        but omitted some functionality...

        [DHCP Clients table, Wireless Clients table including a graph of signal strength, Logs]. 

        Version 6.0 does provide more sensible consolidated information

        on each wireless client, if you hover over the wireless client name.

    c) AirPort Utility version 5.6 has one other nice feature.

        You can open separate a window for each Airport Wireless Device on your network,

        which I found handy when adding a new device.

    Robert, Thank you for clearing the Firmware vs. AU Update for me. That's where I got confused. With me, there are some weeks I have seen no Pop Up at all & then all of a sudden, it's back again. AU Utility 6.0 seems to have no settings, unless they are hidden in the Menu Bar.

    I got a tip from someone on another Forum. I had a Griffin Powermate Installed with it's software & had it as one of my few Login Items. The person told me to remove the Powermate & get rid of all it's software. There are reviews on Amazon about it not playing nice with Mac OSX. So far, so good. It's been only about a day, so it's too early to say. But I've seen sillier stuff than that cause issues. So I will wait & report back soon.

    I finally found out this error was caused by my Time Capsule Hard Drive slowly going bad. It finally stopped working & would no longer connect or be recognized. Eventually it caused the Network to stop working properly. Airport Utility, I could no longer Edit Settings. So today, I opened the Time Capsule up & replaced the 500GB Dead Drive with a 250 GB Good Drive & all is working perfectly. Was very easy to open btw. So in my case, the Server Connection Interuption was due to a failing TC Hard Drive. Mine bit the dust gradually. I'm grateful for that. As I had time to copy all my Music to another Drive before it finally died. I plan on putting a 1TB Hard Drive in eventually and using it for Time Machine Backups.

    I found a solution that consists of killing /System/Library/LoginPlugins/FSDisconnect.loginPlugin

     

    It won't solve the original connection issues, but it does make the error message stay away.
