This usually is due to
• Brand of DVD used
• Type of DVD used
• Burn Speen
Memorex and NoName etc. cheap brands usually do not work when making Video-DVDs - I only use Verbatim
+/-RW - usually do not work or have severe problems e.g. one specific color - by went green
+R - modern - but not all DVD-Players like it
-R - What I use as even Older DVD-players accepts it
• I set it down to x2 (x4) as a low burn speed gives less Burn Errors

Some (usually older) DVD players do not like home-made DVDs, other prefer DVD-R to DVD+R, others refuse to read home-made dual-layer DVDs.
That's how it goes!
