I'm using a MB Air Superdrive on my mini (i7 server) which is now happily running SL. I did the mbasd=1 plist update and used a script called DVDDriveSwitcher. When it runs it'll prompt for Internal or External. I just changed it to external and rebooted. DVD Player now works like a charm.

And while I'm here: many many thanks to the people who figured out how to make the updates to get SL to run properly on this hardware.

Would someone redirect me to a relevant thread which would point me to how to get Snow Leopard working properly on a MacBook Air?

I've got 10.6.8 installed and it can boot to external monitor. Internal LCD comes on during initial boot and Apple logo, but then goes black. Trackpad not recognized but usable as a mouse, card reader not recognized.

I've done some kext manipulations per this thread and have the machine ID added to the correct text, but the graphics issue is obviously major. I am about to try the .dmg package posted.

    Thanks

I'm having issues with iTunes for which I can't point to any other cause.

I dragged a dozen .m4a audio files from Finder into the main iTunes

window. There appeared a small window with small progress bar and the

file name currently being copied. Each of the file names appeared in

the box as iTunes apparently worked its way through the list,

    copying(?) them.

    Then... nothing.

I do not see the files anywhere. I typed the names in the search

field in the upper right corner of the main window. No results.

I do not see them listed in alphabetical order. Nor if I list by date

(looking for today's date). They are not in any of the subfolders

    (pod casts, etc.).

I trashed the 3 iTunes prefs files and restarted. No joy.

I trashed iTunes and installed a copy downloaded from Apple. No joy.

I rebooted and ran AppleJack (normally a weekly task). No joy.

Is anyone else having troubles copying files (specifically m4a files) to iTunes?

Sorry iXod. No probs here on a Mac mini server modified using the original kext method to 10.6.8. iTunes 10.6.1.

Question: Do you still have your Lion installation on there too? Perhaps files are being added to wrong user/library? Can you use spotlight to search for the added .mp4a files to see where they are located?

I have a version 2 Mac mini server modified using the David Amos Method (for installing Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a 2011 Mac Mini, version 2).

Is there any benefit to installing the package provided by newfoundglory, after I've already applied the David Amos Method, ver.2?

    Hello

Can any of you with Mac mini EFI Firmware 1.6 (latest update) installed confirm whether Snow Leopard will still work on Mac mini 2011 models?

@ iXOD I assume you've repaired Permissions and checked the import settings

in iTunes for compatibility w mp4 (video). You might also try to locate them through

    QuickTime.

    Good luck, Tom

    Tom,

the files are m4a, not mp4 (audio not video).

iTunes doesn't care about import settings if you're just adding files to the library (ie, not importing or converting them).

Yes, permissions are repaired by AppleJack maintenance utility, which I ran.

    Thanks,

I had success installing SL on my 2011 mac mini. I used an early 2011 imac that was born with 10.6.6 SL.

My mini was born with lion 10.7.1 and I upgraded to 16gb RAM and one of the internal drives to an OCZ Vertex3 SSD.

HOWEVER, after I did the SL "downgrade" I installed geekbench mark and scored a 3100! With Lion installed I score a 9720!

I did not install all my software and run it as Snow Leopard  long enough to see if the system was actually  performaing at one third the Lion machine though.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Do you think geekbench gave a correct rating? Was my system that was running a 9720 on lion really running a 3100 score? Or was geekbench confused ?

Your geekbench results are "normal", I think your Mini is a server?

    My Mini i7 had 1700 to 7000

I think you missed newfoundglorys help:

Install his package and everything works well

I have been having sporadic problems with my mini (2.5 dual i5 w/ 4gb RAM and AMD graphics). For a month, my Bluetooth magic mouse was acting horribly, but somehow, it seemed to have fix itself. Then a few days later, I woke up to my mac powered down, no power failures in the house, only this computer was off. Booted up and the system had indeed crashed while every human here was sleeping, here is the log:

I'm no genius when it comes to reading logs, but it seems the problem occurred with the graphics drivers... maybe? Any thoughts? Are there updated drivers I could try?

Hi ZX48, newfoundglory, David Amis (and company),

In reading much of this thread and skimming the rest, it seems as though you are three of the main players in getting SL working on the new mini. I have one question which I did not see addressed, so I'm asking for your (or anyone else with something to offer beyond pure guesswork) experience with this or opinion on it.

In the time since you installed SL (I refuse to call it downgraded; it's literally more of an upgrade), has Software Update worked as it should? You don't have to go looking for and testing out every update that comes along like in hackintoshland? Or have you been ignoring security updates, third party updates (Office, Flash, etc.) and just stickiing with what you know works?

    Thanks

    Hi tjk,

Here's my experience. Been following thread since begining. Have a mac mini 5.2 ( mid 2011 ) i5 2.5,4Gb ram, with ati grafics and standard HD. Installed newfoundglory pkg. on external Hd 5.400 rpm, FW 800 running 10.6.8 , since pkg released. Using it every day , updated latest 10.6.8 security updates pluss safari and other third party sofware too. So far simply PERFECT , no panics at all, FASTER and more reliable then internal HD running Lion 10.7.4.

    latest geekbench scores:

    Lion: 10.7.4

    32 bit mode : 6.540

    64 bit mode : 7.150

    SL: 10.6.8 ( with latest updates )

    32 bit mode : 6.620

    64 bit mode : 7.260

So next step, I'll clone external drive with SL to internal one and maybe keep a copy of Lion on external FW drive.

Hope this could help. Thanks again to newfoundglory, dimoe and to all folks following this thread.

    Cheers from Spain ,

    Jose.

Thank you so much Jose. Just what I was looking for.

Definitely. You're still within the one year hardware warranty, so if you have to bring it in, they're going to want to see Lion on it (if possible). If that's not possible and they still work on it/repair it, they'll likely put a stock installation of Lion on it before returning it to you, so I would also make sure to keep a current backup of the SL setup. Hope you'll post back with results after you clone to internal.

Anyone else have anything to share regarding this?

    Thanks again!

they're going to want to see Lion on it

    Why?

I had some repairs (Firewire, Logicboard, DVD-Drive) of a Mini 2010 and a MBP 2009, but they never touched my system.

If you need a new Harddrive, of course you have to install everything again (or clone it back)

My Mini i7 has all Snow-Lion-Updates and got the Firmware-Updates when I used my external Lion-Volume
