You can't remember what city (or state or even country) you lived in on January 1?

    Amazing!

WHY SHOULD ANYONE HAVE TO REMEMBER THIS JUST TO DOWNLOAD AN APP.

I think the security questions it is prompting you for is for you to answer in case you forget your password. It is not actually going to ask you these questions every time you purchase an app, but just the one time, and if you forget your password.

You have the privelege.  Just don't buy anything from the iTunes Store.  That'll show 'em!

That's exactly correct.  One exception is if you want to change questions/answers and/or password, you will be asked two questions before you're allowed to do so.  In any event, it's no big deal.

I am getting that prompt too. I didn't really trust the prompt, so I went to my iTunes account online and there is already a single question defined. I chose to create my own question during initial setup and have the answer on file. Why am I now being asked to define them when I buy an app? I am not asked when updating - just when I am trying to get a new app.

Is this legitimate from Apple? I am really in no mood to have my iTunes account hijacked.

    Thanks,

Because Apple has changed their security system.

This is a prompt coming from inside the itunes software, which can only connect to apple's servers. You can see it contacting the itunes store in the status bar. You had one question defined. It now requires three, precisely to prevent hijacking.

Thanks Josh, I put in the 3 answers and finally got to make my purchase! Still think it was stupid Apple not warning us this would be happening. Cheers.
