My computer is running slow and spotlight continuously indicates it is indexing? I am running Lion 10.7.3, MacBook Pro, 4gb ram, 250 gb hard drive with

214 gb free, any help would be appreciated.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.

    Step 1

Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "mdworker" (without the quotes) in the Filter text field. Post the messages that appear in the Console window — the text, please, not a screenshot.

If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Do not post many repetitions of the same message.

Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

    Step 2

Do the same with the search string "mds".

Use this terminal command to stop Spotlight indexing.

    sudo mdutil –a –i off

Those extracts show only that you ran a live verification in Disk Utility while Spotlight was indexing. Is there anything else in the log?

    Yes I rebooted.

I have found an alternate solution, I used an app (Cocktail) that has allowed me to stop indexing. From Cocktail select system and check indexing disabled.

This has not solved my problem of sluggish speed but it got me past that issue.

Thank you fr your help it did help
