It's lovely, they look like Apple generated pics, perhaps from a screensaver?
Are you seeing the hashmarks on the clickable items that I am? I'm not following the "lovely" aspects you mention!
This has come up before and I'm researching to refresh my memory as to whether it's a software or hardware problem. I'm thinking hardware, but I also notice you have some question-mark icons in the Dock, indicating some programs have lost their associations with the Dock icos.
Does this persist after a restart? What happens if you repair permissions? Do you have your original gray system disks so you can run Apple Hardware Test?

I have opened the back up to look for swollen or leaking capacitors but everything in there looks clean and almost new. when I restart the computer the boot screen is fine and the only thing affected in the login screen is the mouse cursor but the same problem comes back when I log in. Unfortunately I do not have the original gray disks as I got this second hand from a friend who has misplaced the disks. I will try find Apple Hardware Test's through the apple support website etc. and will repair permissions now and let you know how it turns out!

Thank you, but this will not help as I live in New Zealand. I think I am just going to boot up using Ubuntu and see if the problem persists, if it doesn't that means it is a software problem, right??

If you create another user account and test from that one, does the problem persist?
I keep hoping the G5 gurus will step in. They must all be enjoying a nice spring weekend elsewhere!

I had a small breakthrough! I put it into safe mode and the problem dissapeared, all except for the mouse cursor box that is the size of ten of itself. i would upload a picture but i have maxed out my data allowance for the month and im now on dail-up speeds (4kbps). but this is in safe mode which is annoying and basically uselessiMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11), Second Hand PC
