Is there a way to download Adobe Acrobat Reader to my iPad?

Only if it is available in the app store.

A really great pdf reader is GoodReader, but that is not a free app...but it does read all pdf files, and a lot of other formats including showing videos.  Will even open password protected pdf files.

Will good reader read a file that says Adobe Reader required? Thanx

Adobe has a version of Reader available in the App Store (U.S., anyway). However, I think Goodreader is far superior.

I don't have much use for it but I've found that Adobe's Reader works real well.  I've never used Goodreader.  Why is it superior?

So even if it says Adobe Reader required Goodreader will read it? Thanx

I like the way it allows me to organize documents into folders. It will also display other file formats. It also has more features for browsing and downloading files. It really is more than just a PDF reader. My first experience with the Adobe Reader app was disappointing. No annotations. For just a simple PDF reader, I already have iBooks. I believe they've improved the app since I tried it but it still doesn't do anything that iBooks or Goodreader won't do. If I hadn't just spent 17 hours in a car, I'd probably have a more coherent answer, too.

Sure.  You're reading verbiage that was created by Adobe!

Thanks.  This was primarily curiousity on my part because I don't access pdf files on my iPad often.  I do remember having an issue with pdf on iBooks but it was a long time ago and I forget what it was.
