My MB Air with Lion and the latest Flash player won't play videos embedded on the BBC news web page. I have tried on Safari, Firefox and Crome and it doesn't work on any of them. Videos stream just fine on a Windows 7 laptop. I know there have been some similar threads in the past but I assume that these particular problems should have been solved by now. Any hints would be most appreciated.

Another attempt as the BBC news videos are still not doing anything. I get an eternal red circle apparently loading but they never show no matter how long I wait. Flash is up to date, everything else is up to date, and the videos show just fine on any other computer in the house (which aren't Macs). Any ideas?

    Simon ...

Just having Flash up to date may not be the issue. Sometimes uninstalling the plugin then reinstalling can help and since it affects all your browsers ...

Uninstall first then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS

Then to test launch Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache

    Now try a video.

If you have ClickToFlash installed in ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins that can prevent Flash content from streaming.

Move the ClickToFlash.webplugin to the Desktop

Quit then relaunch Safari and test a video. That plugin is no longer supported in Safari 5.1 unless it's installed as an extension.

Check Safari > Preferences > Extensions

    Thanks Carolyn!

Unfortunately, uninstalling and then reinstalling Flash made no difference. ClicktoFlash is not installed, so not the problem either.

    Hi there!

Did you have any luck with getting the BBC News videos to play?

I have exactly the same issue - which is a bit of a problem as I work in a Press office!

Nothing I have tried makes a difference - either in Firefox, Safari, Chrome or Camino!

    Anyone else got any suggestions?

Videos still don't play. I have kind of given up on it.

Same here. Still can't play any BBC content!

I've got my IT Department on the case (hah!) but I don't really think I'm  a priority to them!

If I come across a solution, I'll let you know!

Hey, I've finally discovered a workaround...!

When I go to a page on the BBC site, which includes a video, as soon as the black rectangle appears (where the video should be running) I 'right-click' to bring up the Flash options and select "About Adobe Flash Player".

This then opens a new window in the browser, which will tell me which version of Flash I have installed (which incidentally, is the current version).

Then, when I go back to the first window, the BBC Video stream will be running !

    Woo Hoo!

Doesn't work every time, but if shut down the Adobe page, then reload the page with the video on it and do the 'About Adobe Flash Player' thing again, it usually works!

    Brilliant.

Anyone any idea why this might work??

Which browser are you using primarily? I use Firefox and have no problem with Adobe Flash. Of course, due to some other Adobe plug-ins, I'm running Firefox in 32-bit mode. Have you tried that? Just select the Firefox icon, Get Info (Command-I) and select "Open in 32-bit mode"... give it a try and see if it might work.

I noticed a few days ago that BBC news videos work fine now. I have not knowingly changed anything, actually, I am fairly certain that I made no changes to my laptop. So it might be that the BBC has made changes to how it streams videos. They work in both, Firefox and Safari.
