Hello -

I shot a stageshow with live audio feed on HDV tape. The audio signals were normal when recording.

When I captured to FCP7 the sound was perfect.

But, when I dropped the clips to timeline the audio is bearly hearable.

I tried to boost it up but did not make much difference.

Please help!!!

Watch the meters as you play the clip on the Timeline.  Where are the levels averaging and peaking?   How are you monitoring the audio from FCP?

Click on the audio track on the timeline to select it. Once selected. control-click on the audio track and from the drop down menu choose Remove Attributes. When the Remove Attributes pane opens, under Audio Attributes, see if Levels is available to be checked (not grayed out). If it is, check the box for Levels, and click OK.

    Does this help?

Often times venue mixers keep a low level on the mixer and get their volume from post-mixer amplifiers.  This minimizes any noise generated by the mixer itself, but gives you (or whoever shot it) a low level signal.  Try adding a gain filter and see what that does.

But are you saying that it sounds great in the viewer and lousy in the canvas?

Not to be a harda$$ about it, but when asked for the average and peaking levels, answering "very low" doesn't help one bit.  Neither does your answer "speakers."  How is the audio output routed in FCP?  Are you using the Mac speakers or speakers dedicated to FCP monitoring?  What are the actual levels on the meters?
