I know this topic has been here before, but just read this one.

I bought an Iphone 4 in Saudi and I use it there as well. I know it has no facetime with a Saudi sim, but I tought it would work with my Dutch sim card. As you might guess it didn't work either. But since I'm freuqently in Bahrain, I purchased a Bahrain sim card and to my surprise I could activate Facetime and use it.

Can anyone explane this to me and why can I not get it working with my Dutch sim card? I've put this question to Apple Netherlands and tried the Phone company, but they weren't able to answer this.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1

FaceTime is not installed on any phone purchased in Saudi Arabia.  You can't get it on there no matter what you do.

What is the model of your iPhone?

If the phone has Facetime on it then it either did not originate in KSA, UAE or Qatar and was illegally imported or it was otherwise illegally modified.

The iPhone with a Model # MC603AE is usually from 3 Middle East countries. Saudi Arabia, U.A.E. and Qatar. According to Apple, FaceTime is not available in Saudi Arabia and U.A.E.

In the notes on this article it states:

    5. FaceTime may be unavailable if your device originates from this region (Middle East) and becomes unlocked or is used in another country.

Now, since you are stating that you are using FaceTime on a phone originated in Middle East, so we are left with a few choices. Either you are the only lucky iPhone owner with a model # ending at AE who is able to use FaceTime, or your phone has been jailbroken to install this feature.

the phone was bought here in Al Khobar in a regular shop

If you purchased your iPhone anywhere but from the UAE Apple Online Store, Etisalat or DU, then you purchased from an unauthorized seller who sold you an iPhone imported from some other country (possibly in violation of UAE laws). That would explain why Facetime would work on your iPhone.

    Regards.

Facetime doesn't use 3G, so the SIM shouldn't matter. Are you perhaps not connected to WiFi when you're in The Netherlands?
